I've spec'd a CAD Workstation and would appreciate thgoughts please...

Ok thanks for the background on the chipset. Whilst a Windows 10 machine could access the network several of my client's have bespoke software that would be installed on the machine that's not W10 compatible. Basically some of my clients specify Windows 7 and I want to be easy to do business...

I've spec'd a CAD Workstation and would appreciate thgoughts please...

The prime software I'm going to be using benefits most from out and out clock speed so I tried to balance clock speed and vale for money and this came out as an ok choice. Would you have any other suggestions? Thanks

My understanding was that 8th gen CPU's will not allow Windows 7 updates which I why I went for an older CPU. I guess I need to look at a different MB..?

Journey, I didn't realise the CPU & board weren't compatible, they are both stated as socket LGA1151? The machine is for contract work and it may need to be placed on client networks that have not yet upgraded to Windows10. I've edited my original post to add the graphics card, it's a NVIDIA...

I've spec'd a CAD Workstation and would appreciate thgoughts please...

Would appreciate feedback on the below system, specifically looking for compatibility issues but any feedback appreciated. Basically I'm looking at putting together a quiet(ish) budget 3D CAD workstation that will need to run Windows 7 - hence the processor selection (will eventually be upgraded...

60Gb OCX Vertex deal + windows symlinks for game installs (i.e.steam) - a deal maker?

Yes seems odd that, a quick google on that part number does show 64mb cache, could it be that the description is wrong?

    Is it worth changing?

Hi, I'm on Vista 32 bit so hope no driver issues, like I said I'm sort of after a feel to see if its worth paying out the extra on top of the speakers for a new sound card upgrade from my current Audigy 2 value

    Is it worth changing?

Hi all, Have had Audigy2 Value soundcard for a couple of years Just about to get Logi Z-5500 speakers:) Question - is it worth upgrading the Aud2 to either Creative X-FI Music or Auzentech X-Plosion DTS jobbie to compliment these speakers? Guess I'm looking for some feedback on either card...

    New mp3/Ipod

Have to say after the first couple of hours with the D2 I'm impressed. The screen is very very good given it's size. Audio also sounds good but I'm not using the earphones that came with it. So far so good... B.A.

    New mp3/Ipod

No European price on the Clix 2 as yet, should be out before end of Aug. I have just ordered the Cowon Iaudio D2 - should be delivered tomorrow. What swung it for me was the expandable memory via SD card. B.A.

    New mp3/Ipod

Hi, I'm just in the process of making my mind up on a new one too, after much review searching I have narrowed it down to either iriver clix2 (8 gig is out soon) or the Cowon D2 4gb (it has SD slot to expand memory at the cost of some battery life). I think I'm going for the Cowon, better...

Can someone settle this once and for all (Vista OEM)

Does the above apply also to the upgrade version (based on the fact that I am upgrading from Windows 2000) or am I free to reinstall this when I change my mobo?

    W2K to Vista

That's what I figured, I thought that if I leave the 2000 Prof Install there then when I upgrade to 64 bit later (when I'm more confident of driver availability) I can just bin 32bit Vista and the 2000 install will validate the new install. I assume Vista creates a dual boot screen at startup...

    W2K to Vista

Ok... Thanks for that Gigi. Would still like to know if my W2K installation will be accessible / usable after Vista goes on so if anyone can help on that... Also how much is the 64bit DVD from Microsoft? Cheers, The B.A.

    W2K to Vista

All, I have a box running Windows 2000 Prof and am considering buying Vista Home Premium Upgrade. I want to do a clean install on a new partition (and believe that with W2K you have to anyway) but when I do that what happens to my W2K installation? Does it just sit there never to be accessed...
