they would be doing that in order to keep the exchange backup battery power in the exchange else they would have to fit backup facilities to the cabinets instead. helluva lot better than the FIOS implementation where they stick everything down the fiber and then you have to have the battery...

Hmm, who runs a mac on verbose bootup;) its either darwin, osx with verbose bootup or osx86 with verbose bootup.
nearly all of the virgin media broadband services are limited to one piece of cpe, if you want a swift unplug/replug method clone the mac address of one of the machines over to the other and will allow you to hotplug the 2.
either that or reset the CM whenever changing the equipment. Only...
cable have had fttc since 2000 well probably a long time before that aswell. different delivery on the "last mile" and its not like dedicated fiber anyway will be like one fiber connection to the cab split perhaps 50-100 ways to copper.
can see virgin perhaps plucking up some moneys to start...
bit of a laugh all this really.
would seriously be a morale breaker if they said what they are actually doing
BT: oh yes we are going to roll out the technology "virgin media/ntl:telewest/cable and wireless/whatever other cable cos" have been running for the last 10 years.
still i am...
seems i ran it completely dead in backtrack and it then needed a few moments to charge the battery to a state where it would say it is charging. You know like a mobile if you completely drain it and then try to charge it sometimes takes a moment to decide that its charging thanks for the help...
Was just trying something in Backtrack, then my laptop just shutdown and will not power back on even if i remove the battery and/or power lead and then reapply power? any ideas?
yes if you share it to the wireless it should work as the computer is basically used as a nat router, however the computer will have to be on all the time you want to use the wireless device. if you got a router the computer would not have to be turned on
yes and a cable router is a NAT router which basically makes all of the data go through as it is from the router, tricking the system into thinking it is just talking to one machine
just get a cable router and plug it in. use the mac spoofer in most firmwares to set to the mac of the laptop or if you want to be cheeky ask them to allow the mac of the router as you have 2 laptops now or a laptop and a desktop
erm see if its active mate, wire up a peice of coax, f connector on one end and a normal belling lee (bog standard aerial connector) on the other, whack it in the back of the tv and try and tune in, if it works you will get bbc etc, like analogue tv, additionally you may also get some things...
the problem here is your modem mate, 120s are terrible modems, if i remember correctly they will max out at 7-14meg at the best of times. and if i am not mistaken they only have 10mbit ethernet ports though dont quote me there
ask them for a new modem or if they dont say the old one is broken...
i was saying in relation to people saying about vm being coax for sub 500m run and it may aswell be copper. it would be good with more coverage, but do you see it in any country (US cable is only in major cities and major towns)cable is only run in profitable areas, no point in putting it in...
