Might be stating the obvious but the carrier bundle update controls the available options available inside the settings app, by the fact that today the Wi-fi calling option showed up under the phone settings for the first time after a carrier setting update.

Not answering the question at all but another vote for TomTom Go, everything already has been stated above but the brilliant traffic avoidance makes it well worth the £15 a year. It's never let me down yet and it's saved me a ton of time, even if it only saves me an hour it's practically paid...

My go-to's for battery on a fresh android install are pretty much: WI-Fi always scanning disabled and location on GPS only. Also disable Google Now if you don't use it. I had a mate with a 5x with the same problems and these 3 things fixed it. If your signal is always poor then the battery...

Might very well be late to the party, but Android Pay now works perfectly on my Nexus 6p with DPI at 460. Apparently DPI changes had to be supported since it supports N DP3 with built in DPI adjustment, so it now works on marshmallow too.

I would much rather keep my DPI at 460 on 6P than use this, as much as I want to use Android Pay it's not worth going back to default DPI at all.
