had the very same thing happend with a maxtor 80gig pata drive, weird isnt it, i had to just rma the drive.

i had a similar problem, hit 'on' fans would spin up and lights would come on for but only a second turned out one of my hdds was playing up, as soon as i unpluged it it fired up, plug it back in same problem, anyway it was replaced by RMA what im tring to say is unplug all unessentials...

ended up blowing the budget and going with the Leadtek GeForce 7600 GT 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-080-LT) easy riders comments were not too helpful tbh. cheers guys, il let you all know how i get on with it.

hi, looking for a card at the £100 mark, ati or nvidia, not to well up on ati stuff, been playing oblivion on my brothers machine with a 6600 and seems to play ok at 1024x768, what sort of performance am i likely to get with a £100 card? Cheers.

A kettle lead would not cause that, imo it is almost certainly the powersupply, check the fan in it, the same happened to me once and it turns out the fan had failed which was causing the thermal cutout in the psu to blow. Ryan
