i've fixed it, it doesn't seem to like having sata cd/dvd drives on the same controller when creating raid arrays. i moved the dvd to the giga ports and i now have the option to create arrays. Its very odd as i have an asus p5k-e with the same controller and i'm running both sata dvd drives...

because the array is a 750gb stripe, i guess i'm going to have to rebuild the old system and back stuff up somehow

I have just upgraded my pc from an nforce 4 system to an intel p35 based system. I had a raid 0 set configured, what i need to know is can i recreate this array on my new system without any data loss? As otherwise i'm going to have big problems backing up the data

Ok i've found enough money to make the change Gigabyte GA_P35C_DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 & DDR3 Motherboard, which is the best choice. i'm currently leaning towards this one as its more future proof with the DDR3 support

ok this gets even more puzzling, i managed to get the drive to detect in my winxp partition using the SI controller, which would suggest the drive is ok and the nvidia controller has a fault. However my striped array works on all connectors of the nvidia controller (normally runs on 3 & 4)...

it was booting on the nvidia controller, running vista. The system crashed yesterday, and hasn't worked since.

Is it possible to add an additional drive to a raid 0 configuration without re-initialising the complete set, as i don't have enough storage space to backup the existing data. Raid controller in use is the nvidia raid controller on an nforce 4 board
