    The Dell 3008WFP Thread

I'm *hoping* that when OCUK get them to sell they will be considerably cheaper, which seems to be the case with the current 3007, as its £820 on OCUK atm, and > £1180 direct from Dell UK. My money's burning a hole in my pocket, come on OCUK get them in :D

    0-60 times

Isn't 1763lb a bit light for the little French rocket with driver aboard? Thats about 800kg inc. the driver. Its not too far off on my car, although it clearly doesn't take traction into account. For example. a front wheel drive, 3000lb car+driver with 8000hp (g0t vtec yo) does 0-60 in 0.4...

    Linux + Ati

It doesn't look like your ATI installation suceeded. IIRC the installer gives a rather poor indication that it failed - check the log file which should be located in /usr/share/ati/fglrx-install.log. You may need to hack a few things to get it to work properly.

    my first speeding ticket

If a car stalls at lets say 800rpm, and you are "near stall" doing 30 mph in third gear, so lets say 1000rpm, then that would suggest that a 5000rpm red line (assuming a diesel) would be 150mph. Just what speed does it do in top?!

Got my brother a Gorillapod SLR Zoom (after getting him the book last year), which you can find on the interweb within your budget.

    Camera Advice - High Noise

I have the same problem with the D70s. Anything other than ISO 200 (which annoyingly is the lowest it goes) is noisier than a MacDonalds giving out free happy meals. Its especially frustrating when you see what cheap compact cameras are capable of producing today.

    Dell 3008WFP Release Date?

I shall be ordering one of these babies myself, assuming there's still nothing better on the horizon when it finally gets released. Can't wait :D

    New Shoes! :D

http://www.pneus-online.co.uk/equivalency-tables-advice.html provides you with a quick guide to permissable and recommended tyre widths vs rim widths. As you can see, the range for an 8.0 inch rim is 215->245. The advantage of 215/35 R19 on the Golf is that it closely matches the rolling...

    Best Speed Camera Detector?

The unit costs around £250 (list price, I don't remember paying this much back in the summer), with £20 for the hardwire kit. You get 6 months subscription included, then its £50/year (inc. VAT).

    Best Speed Camera Detector?

Got myself a Pogo earlier this year for similar reasons to your father - fed up with faffing about with PDA based ones. Seems to do the job nicely - neat install, hardwired into the power so doesn't tie up the the cig. power socket in the car, and easily removable from its base "docking"...

    "19 OZ Superleggeras.

I'd be very interested in seeing the photos Wayne. Should go on the R32 sans problems with that offset assuming they are 8.5" wide. For a matter of interest, how much straightening did they need? I've always thought they looked pretty thin and therefore susceptable to bending (along with the...

    Fireworks

Well ok pitiful was probably a bit strong. However, sifting through the 80 or so I took, 90% are utterly unusable. I wonder if my exposures were a bit too long... Roll on November 2008!

    Fireworks

I can't believe how sharp your photos are. I had great fun taking some myself (first proper attempt), however most of mine seemed to end up out of focus. Maybe this was down to not using a remote shutter release? I didn't think it would be strictly vital given the darkness and length of...

    30" beasties

Thanks everyone for all the comments. I had no idea about the Gateway, or the HP! Doesn't look like we can get the Gateway here though - they state they will only ship to US addresses so that ones out. The HP appears to use an updated version of the panel used in the Dell. Its big bonus is...

    30" beasties

Hello folks, I am in the market for a monitor upgrade, as my 10 year old Sony 21" CRT is beginning to show its age. I absolutely don't believe in skimping on the monitor, this is your view into the digital world and a decent monitor can last for generation after generation of the PC which...

By default, the message is: nohup: appending output to `nohup.out' This is simply saying that all output from the command is being sent to the file nohup.out which will have been created in whatever directory you happened to be sat in when you started the command. If you want to "resume"...

    Paint.NET vs. The Gimp

I know what you mean about the operations being hidden away in a lot of cases, in the GIMP, however there's usually a short cut associated with them which really speeds things up once you've embedded the shortcut characters in the brain. As a Linux user I didn't have a lot of choice really -...
