    Any suggestions for web filtering?

Not to hi-jack this thread, but what brand of firewall do you prefer?

    Server down....help!

Please do yourself a favour buy an actual server instead of putting SBS on that desktop you call server. This whole "it's good enough, it works, its cheap, we're only a small company, blah blah blah" attitude is the reason you were in a panic on the forums earlier. Buy a little piece of mind, it...

Why do manufactures bog down laptops with their useless software?

What I find even more offensive than the junk they install, is when they offer to install a clean factory image for a few extra quid. AArgghhh! I also hate the recovery discs/images which reinstall the junk. Thank god Dell's still ship with a clean CD.

    Bridging a 100+ metre gap - PoE?

Looking over the choices today, i think i'll be playing with fibre. Didn't realise it was so affordable, and it'll be a proper setup once we're done. Thanks lads.

    Bridging a 100+ metre gap - PoE?

No, the main office is about 30people, properly wired & running fine. The 2nd office is a makeshift office right in the back of our warehouse. They just need basic access to our network, webbrowsing and so on. A 10/100 link is fine. VPN over the web isn't a runner, they don't have broadband out...

    Bridging a 100+ metre gap - PoE?

Hi Folks, I'm stuck with a dilemma. I have two offices which I need to connect, but they are over 100metres apart (approx 150m). A wireless bridge is out of the question, interference in this particular area is a headache. So I was hatching a plan to get a PoE injector & a PoE powered switch...

Backup solutions for Windows Server 2008 R2

Yes, thats pretty much it. You decide which server will be your "media server". Install BE on it, and deploy the remote agents to any other servers which you want to backup. In my case, my "media server" is my Domain Controller. BE is installed on the server, and BE can access the tapelibrary...

Backup solutions for Windows Server 2008 R2

You need only 1 copy of BE. Install it on your server of choice, and then roll out the remote agents to each of the other servers you want to back-up. There is no fee/limit to the amount of remote agents you use (or so I believe). Add-On agents will cost you. For example, if you want to...

Backup solutions for Windows Server 2008 R2

You should get both Backup Exec 12.5 (BE) and Backup Exec System Recovery (BESR). I use 'em here, and they are fine. Once a month I let BESR update it's images. Otherwise, Backup Exec runs nightly, backing-up all data on the network. Files deleted/corrupt/lost? Recover with BE Server gone...

    Exchange 2003 - 07 Migration... Offline defrag?

Did I say anything about "regular" offline defrags? No. This guy has probably not had a reason to run a defrag in years, since he's migrated from 03 to 07, now is a good opportunity to perform a healthcheck on the db & clearout the cobwebs Preventative maintenance is essential to properly...

    Exchange 2003 - 07 Migration... Offline defrag?

No, it's not. Exchange is the least fickle of all MS product's I've ever had to use. You might not see any major benefit after the defrag, but it's just good practice. Don't be pushed around by BB users. If they can't live without email during some offpeak time, then they need to get a life...

    File Server advice

You're looking for two different things here. 1) Secure fileserver for business. 2) Media server for the family. Although it would be cheaper to throw it all together into one big box, if you are serious about your business, then treat your business seriously. Use your Vostro for as media...

Having a few problems making a server image using sonicwall/acronis bare matal backup

What exactly are you trying to do? With the CDP, you must create an image & save it to a storage (via FTP or network share, or USB attached device). Once you have an image, you can restore it. You can't clone a server live. Save the image and then restore from the image (if that's what...

    printer for server 2008?

You're afriad to burn £1G on a single printer for 15 people? Gimme a break. Spend the money on something good now, instead of buying junk today, and again in 2years time. Personally, I'd get them to invest in a good A3/A4 multifunction cabinent unit. Will cost about £4-5G's, but it'll be...

    Tape Autoloader

Apologies, should have given more details. It's connected to a PE6850, via SCSI, running Win Server '03 Std & Backup Exec 12.5 The problems I've having are a bit baffling. Every couple of months (6?), the T124 decides to die - I/O errors, losing connection to host, etc. Each and everytime I...

    Tape Autoloader

Hi Folks, Thinking of replacing a problematic PowerVault 124T. Not impressed with the 124T, I've had multiple replacements under warranty. Would like to change the unit with something better, and more reliable. What tape autoloaders do you guys recommend?
