Make sure you use the right voltage adapter. a lot of 19v psus use the same barrel tip while your hdd enclosure might only be 12v.

Oh man had a original 36gb and 150gb Raptor with the window, good ol days. In my quest for peace and speed i had 15k scsi arrays in Raid 0...dark days compared to ssds...the noise and vibration! if only large capacity ssds were as cheap as predicted by now.

    Quick question regarding Sims 4

Can a 1050 2GB GPU run this at 1440p at high settings? Has all packs or whatever apparently. Mate had a 1070ti that gave up the VRAM and i have a 1050 2gb non Ti lying about that he can have for free if it will be of any use. Never played Sims ever so have no idea! I see people using onboard...

    Second hand prices

hahaha bro i've been banned from the mm for over a decade now i believe by some mod for some reason i can't remember, lets put it this way, E7500s and Core 2 Quads were kings of the hill when it happened :D. Did me a favour though has probably saved me tens of thousands in bad buys.

Budget Intel overclocking is back, Core i5 12500 25% overclock.

I'd give the Northwood some credit and say maybe a 3-3.5Ghz Athlon64 or 2.2-2.6ghz Core Solo :D

Budget Intel overclocking is back, Core i5 12500 25% overclock.

I know its a totally different beast with architecture and core count etc.. but i do giggle sometimes that people were expecting 10Ghz+ cpus by now when i hit close to 5Ghz back in the day 17-18yrs ago with my Northwood 30 capper 3.2Ghz :D

Why the current prices are going to kill PC gaming

never accepted 30fps ever tbh. Every CRT i aimed for when they were available was at least 75/85Hz/100Hz. Flagship gpus used to be about 500 tops and 'lesser' gpus weren't miles behind either. The pandemic and mining mess made Nvidia see what people were willing to pay and now even with the...

    Your graphics card history tree?

Not in order, just picking my memory as it comes! Cirrus Logic something used to play doom slowly on a win95 486 DX 2 66 rig Rage XL S3 Virge Voodoo 2 with a Matrox G400 i think Geforce 256 Voodoo 3 2000 TnT2 Ultra Geforce 2 GTS Radeon 64MB DDR Geforce 3 Ti200 overclocked to Ti500 speeds, Elsa...

Why the current prices are going to kill PC gaming

My main 3 gpus are a 1080ti MSI Armor i upgraded with a Arctic Accelero 3 many years ago, Dell 2080ti blower model, Asus RTX 3080ti TUF i got for about 900 a few months back. Hoping to get at least 3-4yrs out of the latter 2 and maybe the 1080ti as a HTPC card will carry on as well and play my...

2080TI - whats the best model to keep an eye out for on the second hand market?

I got a Dell 2080Ti blower card, looks like a black founders edition, thing has taken a beating from day one and surprisingly quiet in a very compact all in one (CHIEFTEC L-type PC case i've had since 2009) case with a 3900X .

Will new amd processors likely fit in old gen boards ?

Honestly though, think to yourself have you ever just done a cpu upgrade? By the the time a Zen 3 setup becomes obsolete even Zen 4 might be in the same boat. For instance this very pc i'm using as my 'table' pc has a 3900X and 2080 ti, nice Asus x570 board and all but i doubt i'll even drop a...

    Cpus dying more often now?

Not my cpus personally, i still do minor pc repair on word of mouth, used to do it for a living in another lifetime but no longer. Cooling too, Cyrix cpus ran hot but heatsink technology was behind imo for what was really needed.

    Cpus dying more often now?

ugh i'll admit to cracking the odd core with the mounting systems back in those days. Used to build pcs weekly for sale so saw a lot of cpus and those first generation ceramic body Socket A's were super fragile, i was accustomed to PIII durability! Chipped the odd core now and then but seems it...

    Cpus dying more often now?

Different boards, same results.. new cpu sorted it every time. I even compared to capacitors/smds on the back etc.. to see if anything was missing.

    Cpus dying more often now?

Oh yeah work with few clients who have hundreds of Coffee, Kabylake etc.. with no issues but i hardly look to the cpu being the fault at first these just surprised me being they came from such mundane scenarios too lol
