you might want to head over to creative forums there are plenty of threads about the "rice crispy" x-fi's its not all bad though
i have an extreme music and i only get crackling when im using 24bit 96000hz asio and only when i use my pitch bend wheel on my keyboard
there are usb midi controller keyboards
i use an evolution mk449c (has one midi out port also) cost around £100
but if your going "pro" then my controller is not reccomended ,some people ive read about love this keyboard but i find its to plasticy and the action is very stiff , i just like...

just set your "recording" volume control to "what you hear"
and any recorder program should be ok ... did you get one with you sound card software ?
maybe you have a setting for full duplex ? on off ?(record and play)
i would have thought your card is capable though
the new drivers have not fixed my crackling problem
when using cakewalk project5 v2 or z3ta+ and my mk449c keyboard with
asio 24bit 96000 , just moving the pitch bend wheel cuts affected sound off
and then crackling starts at a low level and gets progresively louder
to almost speaker...

i use a pair of mordant short
with a crappy pioneer amp and i havent come accross a set of comp speakers that will compare
FYI and wallet !! are you aware of the "rice crispy" problems with x-fi's

it was a setting in the bios for the cpu ... cant remember what it was but
when i changed it a reinstall took 30min
also the sata problem.... with my 939dual sata2 the sata drivers on xp cd
and...
im also an asrock 939dual sata user and other asrock boards as well
all of which have been rock solid ... never had a bad one
best info on this board/bios is at ocworkbench in asrock forums
there are custom bioses ... dealing with 1t i think
voltage mods as well
ive not bothered to use...
i just cut my cable and found an old 2pin connector and joined them
i could never figure out how to get them out ,pushing the metal piece in didnt help
