can a damaged cpu destroy the motherboard?

If a machine doesn't power up you should always replace the PSU first ;) For some reason ATX PSU's have never been that reliable (Vs AT if your old enough :p )

    Which 775 motherboard to choose?

Or use SATA > IDE adaptors, but you do need a floppy powr connector for them!

    Upgrade to E6300 or E6400?

I had a E6400 sitting around 3Ghz on a Abit AB9 Pro -the board wouldn't let me past 386 FSB. That was with std voltages, upping them didn't help. I have a DS4 now and slowly upping the speed...

    Chipset & MB help pls

I think the DS4 is the better choice - you get dual bios, firewire and RAID and heatpipe coolers for a little extra. I did have a AB9 Pro, very feature packed for the price, had a few niggles, but I think i'm happier with the DS4 (and hoping it overclockers a lot better)...If you don't know...

    Gigabyte 965P DS4

Replace your power supply, your problems may repeat but at least you know you have a good PSU...you have spent a lot of the rest and skimped on the PSU, you dont see Ferrari's down kiwk fit having cheap nasty tyres fitted? Power problems could have affected the hard disk while writing and...

    Gigabyte 965P DS4

    I have a Type-R 530w and it runs a E6400 @ 2.4Ghz, 2GB RAM and a X800 (X1800 is duff'ed) with 2 x SATA HDD, 1 SATA DVD-RW no problems at all. But there's a thread somewhere around here and a few people have had bad expirences with the Type-R PSU's (its been active today). But don't forget a...

    Gigabyte 965P DS4

I've got those cheap PSU's before and I wouldn't trust anything much with them, you get what you pay ;) They may claim 600w but i'd really think its closer to 400w but most likely even be less than that. I'd look at getting a decent PSU and then seeing if your problems carry on, the least of...

    DS3

What makes you think its a mobo problem? ;) It sounds more like graphics related...tired reinstalling the the drivers? How hot is it getting? (is the fan still spinning?)

    Gigabyte 965P DS4

There's an option somewhere for the gaphics card (I think its the bottom left menu) - you have auto, fast and turbo - I was having lock up's on my DS4 last night while playing games and going from auto to fast seemed to slove my problems. Out of interest what PSU do you have?

EVGA nForce 680 Now Available @ OcUK

I bought a Abit AB9 Pro based on there preview of the board, I can't believe they didnt have any problems with the board - with the early BIOS Releases memory was a huge problem!

EVGA nForce 680 Now Available @ OcUK

Would a TT120 allow a 6300 @ 500 fsb at sensible temps? Surely if your aiming really high your going to need water cooling. I saw somewhere it took a load more power than a 965/975 - I wouldn't want to think what it would be like when overclocked and with the volts knocked up a little and...

EVGA nForce 680 Now Available @ OcUK

I see the review of this board and I don't get what everyone is raving on about - its twice the price of anything half decent. Great if you play Quake 4 but its not really that much faster than a 965/975 board. Use's a fair whack more power too. Overclock's well but you prolly need to spend...

    Intel to buy nvidia?????

This isn't about now, or the next couple of years, this is about the long term - which is GPU's on CPU's. If AMD/ATI have already started (if rumours are true) then we could start seeing these in the next 2/3 years.

SilenX fans - hype or real?

I brought a few of there old fan's a couple of years back and found that they were pants when you switched them on intitally BUT if you left them running for a while (like 5-10 mins) the airflow picked up a fair bit, I really could feel the difference.

Intel/PowerVR takeover rumor (with a few facts)

Intel are looking to save money, not spend it (unless they want to free up money to buy someone out...) I don't see why they would invest money into a company and then buy it  I think people are reading into this too much.

    Intel to buy nvidia?????

I can't remember where I read this (it could have been on the inq) but there was a comment made that the CEO of NVidia is bit of a control freak and would want to be at the top of the new company. Does Intel really need Nvidia? Intel have been hiring graphic chip people and have signed a...

    G SKill NR PC2-6400

davvy76, try your GSkill + Kingston AT THE SAME TIME (and maybe the Kingston in slot 1, with the GSkill in slots 2 and 4 if thats the dual channel slots) and change the CAS to 4. If the machine boots fine into Windows then remove the Kingston stuff... My Abit will run the RAM at CAS 3 if it...
