I will be backing up seperately to the RAID option, sounds like I want RAID5 but I will have to look into a RAID card, cost etc to see if its worth the cost
Standard Windows utility that is called CONVERT serves this purpose
Just go to the Command Prompt and execute the command:
C:\> CONVERT C: /fs:ntfs
Where C: is a name of the drive you want to convert.
After machine re-boot conversion process will start and you'll have your FAT32...
I have a load of old home movies, record collection and other data that I want to store on hdd's. In order to provide some security I want to RAID the drives;
1. As I will be using the drives as storage and read/write will be rare which is best RAID0+1 or RAID5?
2. I know about minimum...
Ok looking at getting a new card and am curious - which is the best factor to consider, the ram on the card or if it is ddr3??
i.e 256mb ddr3 or 512 ddr2???
Ta
sorry to re visit this - which raid would I be using RAID 1??
Also if the mobo I have supports it is it ok to use that as a raid controller or is there dedicated that are better??
Also any pointers towards which drives to use???
Cheers :)
Ok I am in the middle of spec'ing and ordering my new pc.
Question, do I get a Raptor HDD (74gb) for windows and my programs and then install seperate HDD's for other files etc.
Or will I be better off just installing a large HDD (500gb) and partition some of it for windows and program...
nice to see I started an interesting discussion and some peoples misguided views were corrected.
Also apologies for those people who found they had ram missing! :D
I'm going to go for the 4gb, like has been said it is cheap and it looks as though I can expect ~3.5gb! :)
Ok I know about the ram limitations when running 32bit OS.
My question is if my pc will see between 2.75-3.5gb of ram is it worth paying for 2 x 2x1gb sticks or just getting 2x 1gb sticks?
I will be paying for a 2nd stick but will only see .75-1.5gb of it???
Any comments would be great
one thing to check is the disk management.
right click my computer and manage
then disk management - the usb hdd should appear there, make sure it has a unique drive letter, if not it won't appear.
just change the drive letter and you should be sorted. whilst you are there you will also...
I would say around £600 not inc monitor but this can go up if i see a good enough reason to.
re the graphics card I dont game on my pc so dont want to spend more than I need to - I just want a decent card that can handle streaming hd video files.
