had a look on the well known auction site (sorry admins if I'm not allowed to mention that - please just remove this) and it looks like you can pick up Dell Optiplex USFF (Ultra small form factor - which is basically the same as the Lenovo M710q) 6th gen from £25 and 8th gen from ~ £150. I'm...
It'll be that cheap because officially it doesn't support Windows 11. As per the add it's possible to get Windows 11 running on it, but normally at a compromise of security. If you're not bothered by the increased security that Windows 11 can offer over Windows 10 then carry on, but Intel 8th...
Thanks both.
Seems inflation is kicking in hard with power supplies and companies are making the most of it. It's not like everyone is running 200W CPUs and 300W GPUs, but they like to price it that way. I'll put some time this weekend into digging further.
Much appreciated.
Thanks, but while Corsair might specify that on their shiny RMe series they don't on all and I can't find it on their CV, CX, RM that I can see though maybe I'm just being blind.
Thanks for the suggestion, but that is quite a bit more than I'd want to spend (currently listed at £89.99 on OcUK)...
Way back when power supplies used to have the little switch on the back to support switching between 110/200-240V. Then they disappeared and without much thought I assumed they'd just integrated this somehow.
Jump to this morning when this Christmas when my Brother in Law asks me if there will...
I like the sound of your reply. I just checked with him and he said it's the lack of IDS/IPS. Do you know if he is correct and if so what the Express has?
I'm am not au fait with Ubiquiti which is why I'm asking here, but apparently the interface is a cut down version of the main one supported by the other Ubiquiti controllers and Gateways. I think he said something about lacking the depth of monitoring and reporting? I've not played enough with...
So some friends have gifted me a few Ubiquiti APs over the years and USG. The APs are used, but never really implemented the USG as it isn't suited for the broadband speeds we're getting now.
This is all a bit of fun and learning experience so I don't want to spend the world on Ubiquiti, but...
Thanks for your help all. I think I'll see what I can do about sourcing some proper storage drives for data and use these just for CCTV as they are intended :)
Thanks that's very helpful.
I actually just downloaded a version of TrueNAS to try (it was originally going to be a MS Server box, but thought I might mix it up). Have you had much experience with TrueNAS and would it be suitable for these drives in this 'not ideal, but plausible' use case?
Yup the back of my PC-Q37 doesn't have much room in it with PSU, pump/res, Quadro and for some reason I thought it would be a good idea to put a Aquacomputer filter in as well. It's all been quite a squeeze that a few less SATA connectors would have helped with.
Thanks I was not aware of that, but it makes a lot of sense having a validation drive. So I guess I'd be foolish to use these in RAID 1, but set them up as RAID 5 might be a possibility.
Anyone else had any first hand experience? (Good or bad)
So my WD Red have done me well for many years, but coming to the point where I'm not sure I trust them not to fail soon and I've acquired 3x Toshiba Surveillance S300 10TB drives that in theory would do as nice replacements. I've done some reading and it seems like the only real difference is...
I always enjoy a build log. Today I learnt I could have saved myself a lot of time and effort if I'd thought to terminate my pump directly into the PSU rather than crimping sata terminals... it's so simple... why has it taken so long to realise.
Great job btw and thanks for sharing.
Edit. Odd the forum didn't load post #21 until after I posted this so this refers to your post from 2 years. Back
Scrolling through the first page of images I was wondering how on earth you got the GPU and res in together with such tight connections. Then I got to the second page :D
Either way...
