Advice needed - new CPU, Mobo & RAM ~ £350

It's been one thing after another, in a good (but expensive) sort of way. Here's a bit of a saga: Spec: Abit IP35 Pro Intel Core2Duo E2180 2GHz @ 3GHz 4GB RAM (2x Corsair TwinX 2GB DDR2 6400 C4) I recently bought a shiny big TV which naturally I wanted to plug into my PC. I have 3...

    Constant alarm during gaming

SOLVED! Turned out to be my UPS which I think is dying. The overload light comes on while the alarm is sounding. Feel like a bit of an idiot for missing it, but in my defence it is right next to my PC! No wonder the poor thing is overloaded actually, from 6 sockets it is running: My PC 24"...

    Constant alarm during gaming

Actually the sound seems to be coming from my power supply - is it overloaded? I'm just going to check on the Corsair website if it's meant to do this. It is a 520W not 550W as I stated earlier.

    Constant alarm during gaming

It's really loud which is why I assumed it was coming through the speaker on the motherboard. Also it is constant pitch. Do you really think it's a cap on the graphics card? Is there any way of looking at it for swelling or leaking that would tell? Thanks for your quick reply by the way!

    Constant alarm during gaming

SOLVED! Turned out to be my UPS which I think is dying. Hi all, When I play a game such as COD4 or Crysis, I get an almost constant alarm which is extremely irritating and a bit worrying too. The alarm is high pitched and sounds nearly all the time that 3d content is on the screen, although...

    IP35 Pro can't do over 300mhz FSB

I've found the solution - I've turned off all the energy efficiency settings in the bios, such as thermal throttling and no-execute bits etc. Running at 400MHz FSB as we speak, more to come! I'll turn the settings back on one by one to find out which one was causing the problem.

    IP35 Pro can't do over 300mhz FSB

Thanks for your reply. I've tried 310 x 6 for 1860mhz on the CPU and it still doesn't work (not CPU limited). From what I've been reading on the Abit forums the board needs a bit more encouragement with all four memory slots filled so I will try with two to see if it helps.

    IP35 Pro can't do over 300mhz FSB

I've been reading the Abit boards and will try the following: Try with 2 sticks of memory instead of 4 If this helps, increase VDDR and VMCH to make it more stable with 4 sticks What do you think are safe voltage levels for the MCH and the ram? Thanks

    IP35 Pro can't do over 300mhz FSB

EDIT: Problem seems to be solved by turning off all the CPU power saving features in the BIOS. Hi all, I have the following specs after some very useful advice from you guys on the forum: Intel E2180 Conroe 2GHz (800FSB) Abit IP35 Pro 4x1gb Corsair XMS PC6400 C4 Arctic Freezer 7...

Please help spec my new build

Flibby, I intend to get a DVD-RW as well as a DVD-ROM so no worries there. I have also looked at the Black Dragon, and it does seem better suited (it has the same latencies, although it has a narrower voltage range). I have also looked at the Samsung F1 750GB, I presume it will be faster due...

Please help spec my new build

I'm thinking of going with the following: All I need on top of that is a cheap secondary video card - I presume there exist some PCI-Express video cards that don't require 16 lanes? Thanks for your help guys.

Please help spec my new build

Great, thanks for your advice - if I'm going to spend that much, I might as well get the GTS; I've never spent so much on one component before though! Thanks for the advice on the RAM as well Pneumonic, it's certainly a lot cheaper than the PC8500 stuff I was looking at! Any recommendations on...

Please help spec my new build

Thanks for that. I'm not a particularly hardcore gamer (I can live with a few effects turned off or a slightly lower resolution) so is there a cheaper option for the video card? Are the 8600s reasonable or is a low end 8800 better? My only other query is the memory, wouldn't it be better to...

Please help spec my new build

Please help spec my new build for £750 Hi all, My current computer (Barton 2500 @ 3000, 1gb PC3200, Radeon 9600) is now over 4 years old and I have some money for an upgrade! I'm a bit out of date on what is good and not. My budget is up to £750 and does not include a monitor. I'm happy...

    OcUK Value Hanns-G HC194D 19" LCD Monitor

I've just got two of these, and am wanting to use the DVI (mine came with DVI and VGA cables). I can't get the DVI to work (it says no input detected). I know the DVI output of my video card (Radeon 9600) works because right now I'm using a DVI-VGA converter cable on it. Is this something...
