BECOME AN OFFICIAL OcUK REVIEWER & WIN SAPPHIRE HD 5970, 5870, 5850 & 5770 GFX CARDS

Ahahaha...:D I challenge anyone to perform an adequate amount of testing and write a good review in "a few hours". Free hardware? If I worked minimum wage for the time I spent reviewing a piece of kit I'd end up with more money than if I sold the kit I got "free". Make no mistake...

    Multiple Vouchers

Then he'd be paying three delivery charges - bit useless if the vouchers are a tenner each. Seriously disappointing policy this. Fair enough if it's a website limitation, but at least accept a telephone order and sort him out.

    **WEATHER THREAD**

Depends which forecast you read ;) Who was 'they'? Yesterday the Met Office suggested snow overnight and today, and issued a heavy snow severe weather warning for the West Midlands and pretty much everywhere south of there.

    Firefox 3.0.6 Update

Hate to kind of ignore the topic, but, Google Chrome. Firefox is just too big and clunky now. Chrome is so fast I almost can't stand to use anything else now.

    More snow later this week?

www.metoffice.gov.uk ;) It's where most 'forecasts' from BBC/ITV etc come from. They get it right most of the time, but if you can keep checking the site for the latest info - the forecasts change each day as they get more and more confident of what's going to happen. i.e today they might say...

    Has anyone undervolted their Q6600?

Under-what-ing the chip? Are you crazy? I can understand people running stock volts and ocing as far as possible, but electricity isn't that expensive that you need to save a couple of watts by effectively underclocking a CPU. Just sold a 3.6Ghz @ 1.3v chip on here. Methinks I should have...

January Transfer Window Thread - rumours and signings here

If Arshavin goes anywhere, it'll be Tottenham and I don't think Harry wants him, especially at the price his agent wants. He's too old, too expensive, and too big headed for Arsenal. Liverpool need rid of Pennant and in with a young fresh blooded right winger. Wouldn't be too unhappy to see...

    Budget pc for around £800ish

Unless you're going for the best graphics card that either nV or AMD have, don't go CF/SLI. IMO, *always* get the most powerful single card you can afford, and if you need extra fps down the line, flog the 4870 and get the best single card you can for your budget then. SLI / CF is a waste of...

    I need teaching.

Plenty then. As you've mentioned 60fps I suspect you've got vsync turned on. Try turning it off in the nvidia drivers and see if that helps the stuttering.

***The Official Yorkfield Q9300/Q9450/Q9550 Overclocking Thread ***

VTT isn't CPU PLL. CPU PLL starts at 1.5v and I wouldn't go over 1.7v for 24/7 plus it doesn't make a huge different to normal overclocks on ai/water anyway. 1.4v VTT is suggested as the max, although some people have been fine for relatively long periods of time with higher. Depends on...

    Laptop driver problem.

Nail - Head. Have a look and try to find the detailed specification of the laptop online, or on the Acer website. Have you tried plugging an ethernet cable in and doing a windows update? It can sometimes get lucky and find the right driver.

Which RAM for an i7 Gaming Rig?

i7 officially supports up to DDR3-1333 without overclocking. If you overclock, which I assume you will then you can go for any of the higher triple-channel kits. i.e DDR3-1600 / PC3-12800 or above. I think I'm right in saying that i7 platforms don't handle high vdimm volts well, so look for...

    Which is better ??

Depends on whether you're finding yourself using 100% of the 4GB you've got. More RAM (i.e 8GB) will only show a performance increase when you run out of the 4GB you've got. 4GB of faster ram will show a performance increase immediately, but will slow right down if you ever ran out of that 4GB.

    Ram volts too high?

Correcto. At 2.2v you should be able to get to around 900-920Mhz 4-4-4-12 ;) Nothing wrong with 2.1-2.2v with DDR2 as long as you've got good case airflow on something over the RAM. :)

Will I notice the drop in memory related performance if I downgrade my OS?

XP doesn't use RAM like Vista, so you'll notice it using less but that doesn't necessarily make it better (Vista uses RAM rather than letting it sit idle doing nothing). I use XP on my laptop for performance reasons (Pentium M 2.Ghz and 1GB DDR), but I couldn't go back to XP on my desktop...

    4-4-4-12 or 5-5-5-18 For ram?

Watch out the OCZ platinum I think claims 4-4-4-15 but then requires 2.1v to get there. As others have said, go for lower timings if the price difference isn't too much. I noticed the difference in windows between 4-4-4-12 and 3-3-3-8 at DDR2-800 (loved my Team Xtreem PC2-6400C3 kit :D).

    Timings and other things

What motherboard does the system have? What you'll need to do before installing the memory is manually changed the BIOS memory timings to 5-5-5-18 to be sure that all the stick will work (the new sticks might not work at 4-4-4-12 timings, but the old ones will definitely work at 5-5-5-18)...

    Chrome - Not showing Images?

Not experienced this myself, is it just Chrome or could it be a dodgy wireless connection or something? Tried the obvious - reinstall Chrome? Got a screenshot? Are the images all from a sub-domain or something? Security software blocking them?

    Question about Hibernation in XP

I wouldn't recommend using hibernate for months on end but you should have no problems using it when you want. I still like to shut the pc down overnight so there's no memory overhead or crap left running in the system that doesn't need to be there. Also, any BSOD are likely to be device...

upgrading to x48 means P45 is deing

I'd always go for Asus motherboard from an ease of use point of view. DFI's can have very complex BIOSes that require more effort to get to the FSB's people quote. Asus mobos seem to just work for some reason, and the P5E is very affordable for what you get.
