do we need anti virus, spy bots removers?

I wonder how many of the half a million+ Mac botnet victims were told "no" when they asked whether their Macs were vulnerable? OP, you're not the first asker of this question to get a poor response from this forum, and unfortunately you won't be the last. Those who nonchalantly dismiss the...

Windows 7 mainstream support ends in January 2015, but it's not time to freak out yet

It won't be Windows 9 that knocks Windows 7 off its perch.

    Win8 x86 or x64?

One of the biggest strengths of Windows is compatibility and long-term support. Why would they choose to ditch x86 before its time? It's not like it's holding anybody back who wants x64.

using a mac in windows envionment

It's just common sense. Letting end users dictate their platform of choice is not a luxury most can afford. You standardize on things for a reason.

using a mac in windows envionment

Unless it's part of your remit to provide the choice, I would politely tell them no.

    Bringing a DSLR on Holiday

I must admit I'm getting a bit tired of carting the DSLR on holiday myself. The quality of mobile phones let alone compact cameras these days is seriously making me reconsider.

    First shots with new DLSR

Don't be afraid to use your smaller apertures f8, f11 etc. for a lot of these types of landscape shots. The post processing is fine, just experiment. It's all good. One thing I would say is in #2 is you've managed to line up the top of the building pretty much exactly with the horizon -...

    Win8 x86 or x64?

I'm not advocating people stick with x86 Windows, I'm saying it's premature to call for Microsoft to ditch it. There is a huge difference. For your average user yes, x64 all the way.

    Win8 x86 or x64?

There are still 32bit CPUs still around. Plus upgrade scenarios. There is still a place for 32 bit Windows, it's really not as straightforward as "ditch the old stuff".

Why do people think OSX is so great?

Do Apple really hype OSX to the average buyer? I'm not so sure. The marketing is almost exclusively about the design of the hardware itself, followed up with some vagaries about how the software is supposed to be the antithesis of everyday "computer problems". It's the geeks who argue their...

Is Windows 8.1 worth the upgrade over 7?

BSD more like but in either case should be irrelevant on the topic of upgrading a Windows machine.

Is Windows 8.1 worth the upgrade over 7?

On something like a work laptop an upgrade is questionable regardless of what you're actually upgrading to. In my experience the use cases for these types of machines are narrow and extremely well-drilled and therefore quite sensitive to change. Definitely not a show-stopper but equally not...

    0% finance - very tempting

MacBooks and Surfaces are very different machines. A Mac is going to be useless if you want a touch screen or the note taking features, likewise a MacBook is going to be a better pure laptop. I'd worry about that before financing options personally. You're only going to get good value if you...

Changing Mobo without reinstalling Win 8.1?

I do this all the time without taking any preparatory steps (backup aside which should go without saying) and rarely have any issues and that includes between CPU/chipset vendors. It's nowhere near the hassle it used to be but there is still a lot of leftover anxiety about it.

Is Windows 8.1 worth the upgrade over 7?

All signs point to Threshold being a "what Windows 8 should have been" release so I don't think it's going to suffer anywhere near the same level criticism. Windows 8 was the bulldozer release, just like Vista was.
