Some good articles here show how it works across chips:

And how power at the wall (total system power not just CPU power) can go right out of the efficiency windows with PBO for a small...
Have you tried running at PCI-E 3.0 rather than 4.0? The corrupt windows and laggy bios and strange key presses (USB issues) happening when you got the PCI-E 4 card might point to something. Have you tried switching back to an older GPU?
Intel platforms are less fussy you might be fine. You could as you said buy the kit, try it to see if it works and if it doesn't you can always sell the older kit. It's not too much cash anyway to try.
Noticed the price on the kit keeps on dropping by a pound or two every few days! :D
Noticed that Micron do higher density chips now so we are seeing DDR4 32GB (2x16GB) RAM packs that are single sided and single ranked. It's now the 64GB packs that are dual ranked.
I can't find ANY information on these new chips or results from overclocking and timings! Are they even classed as...
It's hard to say as Team use selected memory chips from different suppliers (Micron, Samsung, Hynix) so you don't know how they'll mix and what results you'll get.
I know that a 2x16gb (32GB) pair I got (same as the ones in your link) were Micron chips but from the new higher density line (10nm...
100% agree.
This is the main issue - not informing us of the situation when the x570 launched. They had the perfect opportunity to make the decision and announcement then if plans had changed. People who bought B450's for Ryzen 3000 and 4000 (let's be honest all the info at the time suggested...
Hahaha, I know I'm old school and can't get used to all this internet data sending used by all modern apps/programs so old habits die hard. Phones are the worst of course! Developers just take it for granted now and send data without options to disable it and I have noticed it's becoming much...
I haven't used AMD drivers in a while and found that the latest packages have no way of disabling internet access.
I've unticked all the internet based options under preferences (link, notifications, user experience program etc) and didn't see an option about automatically checking for updates...
That's ok thanks for clarifying. To be honest I wasn't expecting too much on first gen Ryzen when using dual rank 32GB sticks and would have been happy with 3200 cas 16. The rest has been a bonus. I was never going to pay the same price I paid for 32GB for 16GB B-die for such a small performance...
Is that the same on Ryzen 1 as the mem controller speed and ram speed are fixed? I'm new to Ryzen; thought it's best just to get the ram as high as possible as I can't control the Infinity Fabric speed on 1st gen.
Not one to play with the timings, but for the lazy memory buyer here are my results on an Asus B450-I ITX Strix Gaming and a first gen Ryzen 1700:
Ballistix Sport LT 32GB 2x16GB 16-18-18-18 1T Dual Rank 1.35v (XMP Profile). E-Die - BLS2K16G4D32AESB
Runs at 3533 without any voltage or timings...
I did a new install of Windows 10 a few days ago and couldn't get the old Unigine benchmarks to run either. Tried a few of the older C++ installs but still no luck it went from requesting the missing file to an application error. Then just decided to play games instead.
Although it only makes a minute performance difference, I was just trying to get my head around memory ranks.
In a 2-slot dual channel motherboard, 2 x dual rank sticks allows interleaving on each stick so is therefore faster than 2 x single rank sticks.
In a 4-slot motherboard, 4 x dual rank...
Thanks for the advice everyone - Rroff, it may be specific to the software I use then. Regardless, I really benefited from reading all you comments and will try a few suggestions out. :)
Thanks for the replies, it does return to normal after heavy file reading/copying activity has finished - I just wondered if I could limit the disk cache size in RAM to say 10GB max using group policy or the registry. That means it doesn't start hitting the pagefile needlessly as free ram would...
