Thanks for the replies. I realise that you cannot mix DDR4 and DDR5, my almost rhetorical question was whether 32GB of mixed DDR4 would be better than 16GB of DDR5. I accept that the best solution is to buy new memory (16 or 32), though I won't get much for my od RAM. Thanks

If you want to revert to pre-Fall update, you can download a MS file that hides selected updates so it won't force the upgrade on you again.

I gave up and, combined with other minor issues, I decided to revert to pre Fall updated Windows 10. The process was very painless and only took about 10 minutes (considerably quicker than the update). I now have a very smooth running machine again, though I may try the update again at some stage.

I don't have a SoundBlaster but still have the problem. It didn't occur for the first time since the update today, only to reappear on the next reboot.

I am also experiencing similar problems from time to time using BT on Windows Live Mail. Usually, stopping the new mail check and trying again works. I would suggest the problem is with BT, as I have another provider set up to use Live Mail at the same time and it works fine.

One of the first things I did when upgrading to Windows 10 was to remove the arrows by using the old Windows 7 registry tweak. As far as I can see, it hasn't broken anything.
