OK don't buy that I just rechecked the specs and it looks like both revisions only support 95watt cpus. So a 95Watt quad is ur best option. The only 95watt quad that ocuk have in is this:

It looks like the mobo supports Phenom quads and even x6's, might be a nice upgrade to tide him over for sub £100.
These are pretty good value

I believe ati dropped support for the hd4XXX with one of the 12.something versions of catalyst and therefore the cards are not supported in windows 8. I had a similar probably when trying windows 8 on my laptop which runs a 4250.
However I may be wrong, if you find a fix plz let us know :)
Something like this may be ok for light gaming:
YOUR BASKET
1 x AMD A10-5800K Black Edition 3.80GHz (Socket FM2) APU Trinity Quad Core Processor (AD580KWOHJBOX) £95.99
1 x Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive (CT128M4SSD2) £85.99
1 x ASRock FM2A75M-DGS AMD A75...
Just bought a second one of these and tbh I haven't noticed anything wrong with the anti-glare coating, but then I'm probably not the right person to ask.
Here is my current setup, photo is a little blurry so not sure how useful it will be:
Personally I quite like the look of this board for the money:

Its got usb3, sata 6 and supports the new piledriver chips if you ever want to upgrade. Unfortunately the gigabyte one that is 5quid...
The 900 series boards are probably the best choice as most (if not all) offer sata 6, usb 3 and piledriver compatibility, but it depends on your price point (start at £60).
Failing that there are some 700 series boards for cheaper on the ocuk site but be sure to check the cpu compatibility...
Just noticed an update was posted for my board today (m5a97 pro) and mentions support of new cpus. Looks like they haven't added the new cpus to the list yet but I suspect that will happen soon.
Overclocked business hardware is becoming more and more common:

For mission critical applications that require large amounts of speed as opposed to parallel cores its a fairly good option...
Might be worth picking up a cheap netbook and using the rest of the money on a reasonably specced gaming pc? When I started uni I did the exact same thing (although I had a proper 13 inch laptop with a core 2 cpu).
Now in my 4th year I've actually replaced my laptop with a 15inch Acer 5553 and...
No experience of the iOS apps tbh (android phone) but I believe there are apps out there that offer the same experience as the official one for android. Found a guide to one here that looks similar to the android one (although obviously I can't comment on the value for money)...
The CM elite 360 is quite small for a full atx case and can be picked up for £30:

Thinking of picking one up and recycling my old p35 setup for a smallish htpc and really tempted by this. unfortunately ocuk don't sell it anymore :(
The gigabyte board you've picked for the amd build won't take the FX-4100 unfortunately :( but something like this would be ok and its cheaper:

What do you mean by eco? Surely the samsung modules are more eco as they have a lower voltage requirement and therefore use less power?
Also I'm not sure you can directly relate eco-friendliness to less blood on someone's hands....
