Best small'ish family car for £10k?

This thread is pretty pointless as its clear she picks cars based on looks/exterior design which makes it entirely subjective. The 'best' small-ish car for around £10k will be a Golf DSG and its VAG various incarnations, not crap like the Juke or Captur.

    **Unofficial Tyre Thread**

It's funny how people are bleating on about how their tyres perform in the wet, when they don't even seem to realise that they're using summer tyres and that winter tyres blow them out of the water in terms of wet braking.... http://youtu.be/elP_34ltdWI?t=3m20s

LL oils + 18k change intervals = waste of time

I couldn't care less :D I'm not going to lose any sleep if you run your car for 50,000 miles on a single oil change.... :p

Nothing to do with troll fishing etc. It's only the a significant minority of *** remove my edit again and you will be suspended *** - Will Gill on this sub-forum who don't know better and always insist that up is down, down is up etc. If a car manufacturer said tomorrow that they've extended...

LL oils + 18k change intervals = waste of time

Yeah, but you never stress your engine because of the way you drive, 30% throttle etc. The stretch to 18k service intervals was for fleet cost reasons with data derived from optimum driving conditions, in the same way that manufacturer MPG figures are derived from optimum driving conditions...

LL oils + 18k change intervals = waste of time

Ford is even less in the US! In general, Ford Motor Company recommends the following oil change schedule: 2008 and newer model-year vehicles: every 7,500 miles or every six months, whichever comes first 2007 and older model-year vehicles: every 5,000 miles or every six months, whichever comes...

LL oils + 18k change intervals = waste of time

LOL. That's funny given that BMW have now revised their oil change intervals down to 10,000 miles :p http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=998439

LL oils + 18k change intervals = waste of time

LOL. 18,000 service intervals weren't introduced because someone eliminated oil getting dirty and contaminated with use, they were driven largely by manufacturers wanting to bring down the 'on paper' cost of servicing to fleets over contract periods. I work for Coca-Cola but I wouldn't say I'm...

Paying £10,000 to drive 10,000 miles? In a 2.0 4cyl diesel? £1/mile excluding fuel?? Are you mad? You might as well just set fire to that £10k and make a bonfire out of it.
  20. MarkDavis

LL oils + 18k change intervals = waste of time

Sure. What I'm saying though is that for the sake of a £18 tub of Dexos 2, you'd be mad, not to change your oil (and filter) at 9000/12000 miles and instead run it to 18,000 miles. It's daft, particularly if you have a hard worked or turbo'd engine. Never understood why people would rather...
