1930s Semi Refurb - Part 12 of ... (New Bedroom)

Dependant on ceiling height, assuming you can accommodate 12.5mm + skim (say 15mm) ceiling height loss I'd just overboard the ceiling

    North facing gardens

Even then I think the winter solar gain isn't massive. If it's a newer property that's well insulated (or even in last 10 years or so with an insulated cavity/floor/roof) I think it should be fine.

    North facing gardens

Depends how long your garden is. Mine is completely north facing but about 50m long so is fine. It also has bifolds and Rooflights on the rear and because it's north facing it doesn't suffer from solar gain or glare so don't need curtains or blinds etc. I like having sections of shade in the...

They're getting a good test! Is there no way of putting fixings left and right hand side or are they all in the back?

Sound insulation vs thermal insulation for eaves/loft

I believe normally the U values are slightly worse for sound slab, but it is a lot more expensive so surprised they're using it! Remember insulation is a function of the thickness too, so more is more and typically cold roof you want a 300mm layer if you have room to do it.

How much crap do you have on hire purchase?

About 45k on interest free credit cards, plus a mortgage Id rather keep swapping / "stoozing" the interest fee credit cards if I can earn more in the bank than it costs me (e.g 1% balance transfer fee on card vs 5% in bank) I just bought a sofa for 2.5k ish which could have done 0% for 4 years...

    Mattresses - I need knowledge

Ive got an artisan naturals in super king and like it. But I would speak to the sales team regarding your requirements. I did end up adding a circa £300 topper to mine for extra softness on what they refer to as the "comfort layer" (mine is split firmness and my side is fine) They were very...

    Interior Door fitting - price

Just buy the 726x 2040 door.. Yes you will likely cut the lipping/ expose the grain on top and bottom, but unlike the sides when trimmed that won't be seen. Fyi climadoor supply doors with 20mm lippings thats where I got mine from. I paid 75+vat per door and got about 14 doors changed in my...

What "man jobs" have you done today?

Hey some of the best permanent fixes are meant to be temporary... If it's stupid and it works it ain't stupid. But yeah it is a bit of a mess!

    LG OLED 2023 Thread - A3, B3, C3, G3

Just got a 48C3 to go in my front room and already got a 65C1 in main living space. Are any of the "smooth gradation" type options worth keeping on? It looked very vivid but I tend to turn them off as they can cause weird optical distortions and lag Main use will be general TV /video games and...
