    Random 3D printing chatter

Agreed on the better base machine. Unless, of course, building it, tweaking it etc is what interests you more. Assuming you want to actually print stuff, a decent machine makes it a lot less painful. A Bambu X1C is my 2nd machine...so I've done both. Still have some upgrade parts for my old one...

    Random 3D printing chatter

I think that PETG can stick too hard to PEI unless you use glue - ironically - as a release agent. I've had good results with the Lightyear 3D G10 (aka Garolite) bed on an X1C. Also seems to be available for Creality. Haven't used glue since for PLA, PLA-CF, PETG, PETG-CF, PET. Haven't tried...

Windows 11 version updates not happening?

I don't get why they need to force it on people when there's clearly a load of us WANTING the newer features! Maybe we need to come up with a reason it would be massively inconvenient if they installed it without option...so they can foist it on us without warning!

Windows 11 version updates not happening?

@opethdisciple Yeah, it's possible to do, my concern is simply that give the box to a user and will it happen by itself...'cos they sure as hell won't be downloading iso's and doing manual upgrades! @ED209 Quite probably. My own PC works with 11 but the CPU isn't supported. If you run the...

Windows 11 version updates not happening?

I'm pretty sure I've seen the really old Intel update before and it's a mistake, of course. May be worth trying to install it as it'll fail if it's an older version but it might be that it's holding up the offering of a new version. In a twist to the story, now this PC is up to date, the user...

Windows 11 version updates not happening?

Cheers, that's sort of comforting in that it shows it isn't something odd about these two PCs. Oddly, I came back to it this morning and turned back off "Receive updates for other Microsoft products" and "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available" but let it do the couple of Intel and...

Windows 11 version updates not happening?

@Tetras That was my first thought as my own PC is technically unsupported (Threadripper CPU) and doesn't offer any version update beyond original install. Annoying but I could see a reason. These are brand new HP PCs and the install is two and three years behind. At some point that's going to...

Windows 11 version updates not happening?

Did start adding this bit clearly got distracted before posting :D I have used the installation assistant on one to sort of upgrade and the length of time to put of box, uninstall bloat, update and then clean up the windows.old folder so the SSD doesn't overflow means it's faster to wipe and...

Windows 11 version updates not happening?

Apologies if this has been asked already - couldn't find a thread with a search. Windows 11 Pro 22H2 on two different brand new PCs - both HP - don't offer the option to upgrade from 22H2 to 23H2. Actually, one of them may have been 21H2. My concern is they'll never update and it's not me...

Project: Somnolent High Ground (raised bed)

A final pic now that the PC has gone in. I promised some eventual PC-related content after all! This is, of course, the PC from Project: Self-Inflicted if you want better pics. Only one monitor?! Yeah, for now. It may multiply if necessary in the future. The extra 6" of desk that I was...

Project: Somnolent High Ground (raised bed)

No offence but I was hoping you were wrong too! :D A panic application of paint wasn't in the plan but time pressure and readily at hand. It looked good on a test piece. We'll see on the tackiness; either it'll settle of I'll have to go over it with something to seal it or sand it back and...

Project: Somnolent High Ground (raised bed)

Well, I think I now know who's done this sort of thing before! We stained the desk and it didn't take particularly evenly or on a lot of the wood. I sanded it before applying the stain to take off anything that might be on it already but I didn't dare sand too far as it's only veneered. So...

You might want to just check how much air it shifts as it may be thicker but it's only 60% of the power. Unless, of course, quietness is the criteria.

Project: Somnolent High Ground (raised bed)

Back with pics :D The last guard rail post. 10mm rod extending down 73mm into the timber (half way) and 190mm up into the post. Figured this would be something that might get pulled on coming up the ladder so it needs to be sturdy. The smaller one is 6mm and just prevents the post spinning...

Project: Somnolent High Ground (raised bed)

@SpellowHouse Thanks, that was certainly the intention :D I think I take after my dad in that he wouldn't use an inch screw when a 6" was a possibility.... except I'll use a dozen of them to make sure! @pastymuncher Cheers, nice of you to say. Got the last post in today and then the guard...

Project: Somnolent High Ground (raised bed)

Ok, some decent progress now. First, the ceiling grommet installed. I've got the rod installed too but there are better pics of that. Next, the stained ladder that I only got a half-finished terrible picture of. This, a 95% finished terrible picture for you :D Still needs cutting down...

Project: Somnolent High Ground (raised bed)

Yup...amongst the other things going on, of course. This is the dodgy thread I wasn't happy to use: This is the single-point cut version at the top of the rod. The same has been done for the shorter thread at the bottom. I've yet to mill a hex on the smaller round part so that I can put a...

Project: Somnolent High Ground (raised bed)

Got the steel rod all measured and marked up. Cut it to length and cut threads on it with a die. All went quite well... until I took the die back off and it chewed a number of the threads up as it went. Anything I did just made it worse and I just don't trust damaged, deformed and flakey...

Project: Somnolent High Ground (raised bed)

Got the steelwork done for the top of the rod yesterday. I reckon this should be overkill enough! :D To be fair, most of that is just about spreading the load across a wider area rather than needing that much steel for strength. The smaller one is another jam nut. I've got the hole...
