    Decent 2-3GB quiet long-term-storage HDD?

Thanks for the recommendations - I did indeed mean TB not GB :D Are the WD Reds suitable for desktop use? Or are they exclusively for NAS? I'm guessing they are louder? More reliable? Thanks!

    Decent 2-3GB quiet long-term-storage HDD?

Hi all, My video editing machine currently has: SSD - (OS & main programs) 1TB HDD - (Files & other programs) 1TB HDD - (Files) I'm looking for a SATA 2-3TB HDD for long-term-storage :) Planning to: SSD - (OS & main programs) 2x 1TB SSD RAID0 - (working files & other programs) 3TB HDD -...

Got a new MX100, this normal?

I did yeah. Just seemed like a hassle to image the drive I was using, plus I was changing the bios to AHCI and I'd seen references to that being a problem if windows wasn't installed with it on...

Got a new MX100, this normal?

Excellent, thanks :) That's basically what I wanted to know - it feels loads better than my old 2 HHDs so just 'give it a check' to make sure it's not faulty in some way. That's great, cheers for the help! :)

Got a new MX100, this normal?

You were right! :) Though I'm not sure why :D Is the larger block size 'more relevant' in some way? I'm not after mega-performance (it's SATA2 for a start...) but I just wanted to check everything looked alright in the setup & performance was in the ball-park. Does everything look...

Got a new MX100, this normal?

Hi all, Got my first SSD after you fine fellows suggested it :D Certainly feels fast (well, for SATA2 anyhow :)) so I downloaded HD Tune to see how it was doing... Does this look about right? I gave AS SSD (final score 670) and CrystalDisk a run too, they seem to show numbers...

Some SSD advice for a Newbie

Thought I'd bump this thread again, the title still fits ;) I'm getting an SSD from that red-suited guy with the white beard this week... Are there guides to how to setup BIOS / Windows properly for an SSD? I can guess stuff like disabling drive sleeping, moving the page file to an HDD...

Some SSD advice for a Newbie

Hi all, Santa has graciously asked if I'd like anything this year and I've been thinking of a SSD. My machine is as-signature with 2x 1TB Samy Spinpoint F3s. Main problem with my old (!!) rig is that it only support SATA2, so maybe it's not worth getting something like an 850 PRO...

    Basic OCing Question....

Hi guys, Would a (stable) CPU @ 4GHz - 1.35v generate the same amount of heat as the same chip @ 3GHZ - 1.35v? Does increasing the chip speed itself generate more heat? Thanks :)

Need a spot of advice with my i7...

Well, it's very late... But I got it working (yay) (apparently the 4th and 5th mug of coffee does the trick ;)) For completeness (and in-case someone Googles this in the future) My Gigabyte EX58-UD5 was running 6GB in tripple-channel with 3 memory sticks in this configuration...

Need a spot of advice with my i7...

So, installed BIOS F12. CPU-Z now reports 10GB (yay!) Windows reports 10GB (yay!) But says only 6GB are usable? .....and also the BIOS still only says 6GB :(

Need a spot of advice with my i7...

Another thought, I've not upgraded my bios since new (it's F7) I'm seeing other people taking about F12 being good (and the gigabyte site says "Enhanced memory compatibility") Maybe that's causing an issue...

Need a spot of advice with my i7...

    Hmm, actually, wonder if I've made a mistake here.... Page 16 of the manual - http://download1.gigabyte.eu/Files/Manual/motherboard_manual_ga-ex58-ud5%28p%29_e.pdf I'm looking at the '3-channel' '4-module' row: DDR3_1, 3_3, 3_5 = 2GB (8,8,8,24) Sticks DDR3_2 = 4GB (9,9,9,24) Stick Will...

Well I did a windows reinstall, no difference... But I managed to get some more Corsair RAM for a good price....but I can't seem to get my machine to recognise it :( I got some CMX4GX3M1A1600C9 http://www.corsair.com/it-it/cmx4gx3m1a1600c9 (That's 1x4GB) I currently have 3x2GB in...

Need a spot of advice with my i7...

Thanks :) Also been thinking about the point that a number of you have been making - strange that I'm running out of ram. Planetside 2 has a 64bit client as is famously cpu-intensive and uses a fair chunck of ram, but... Noticed I'm getting almost 2GB used just on windows start. This is a...

Seems my existing memory is 8-8-8-24 But im seeing a lot of replacements are 9-9-9-24 I was under the impression that lower numbers were best? Would that cause a problem if I bought 1 or 2 sticks with those timings to use as well? Thanks guys, memory has always been one bit I struggle to...
