Will the GFX card work without a fan plugged into the little mini plug? That cooler has a 3pin that plugs into the mobo, but the stock cooler 2pin plugs into the card itself?

I assumed (yes, making an ******* out of me) that a newer card/higher model number == better card/higher performance. I'm shocked to see my card still on sale for over £100 (on Google shopping) So strange! But that settles it, for now I will get a new GPU cooler for £20 :)

Just curious, how are equivalents for old cards figured out? I wouldn't have considered a 6xxx range card to be one step up, but more like a million lol Here's hoping I have access to the MM!

As the title says, I need an ATI HD4870 1GB replacement for £50 max. preferably cheaper. It'll be for gaming, seeing as my 4870 can/could handle Bad Company 2 on max, Skyrim on medium-ish, TF2 on max, MW2 on high, I hope I'm correct to assume any card in the HD5000 range will be an improvement...

Time for an update! I gave the GFX card a good blow (!!!) and after booting up, the ATI software now reports temps around 60 degrees with a fan speed of 10%, as opposed to 85 degrees and 70%! One problem though - the fan still "rattles". In fact I think it rattles more now. Giving it a nudge...

Yea, I was just really curious about what I could get now for that budget. Good to know I can get a pretty good rig, even more so when I actually have the funds to commit! Cheers for the help guys. Am I right to think that a dual GFX setup would only be beneficial if you get 2x of the highest rated cards? For example, rather then get 2x low/mid-end cards, I should just get 1x high-end card?

Sorry, yea it's most likely going past that, I've seen it on 85 degress in the ATI utility so it most prob going past 90 easily! My other specs are AMD Phenom X2 unlocked to an X4, Gigabyte MA-770-UD3 and 4gb RAM (though I'm on 32bit Win7 - don't ask lol) Pretty old, but it's still a beast!
