    S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Lost Alpha

Absolutely fantastic standalone game albeit with many bugs in it's current state. The gameworld is HUGE and is dripping with atmosphere. I run on 2560x1600 res at maxxed out settings on DirectX 10.1 and it's smooth as silk although after a period of time playing, my fps halves until I exit the...

    Calling all skydivers!

It's 15 stone at Langar in Nottingham. I think that in most places, they allow weights over that amount if the person is fit. The 15 stone limit isn't really for the parachute rig. It's intended for the landings. If you're 16 stone and out of shape, there's an increased risk of landing badly.

    Calling all skydivers!

You get up to ONE MINUTE in freefall depending on jump height and opening height. As a student, I was jumping from 14000ft and opening at 5500ft and was getting 50 seconds freefall. I can now take the opening height down to 4000ft as I have more experience. That will give me just less than a...

    Calling all skydivers!

AFF course is probably the best way if you intend to make it a hobby. I've just completed 8 jumps and I'm now qualified to go solo on my ten consolidation jumps. After that, I get my A category licence.

*** Official Dead Island Thread ***

I had graphical errors on my game. Lighting would switch off suddenly when I stepped into it. I got as far as the Abandoned House Quest in town and then abandoned the game. I uninstalled, reinstalled and then started again. This time, the graphics were fine and look sharper and more detailed...

Loving the game but it's being spoiled for me by dodgy interior lighting. You can walk into a pool of light and instead of a shadow being cast, the light just disappears. This happens to light coming from windows and electric light sources. The actual light doesn't seem to interact with the...

    **Official Duke Nukem Forever Thread**

The graphics I was expecting. A casualty of the appalling mismanagement and stop start mechanics of Broussard. The level design, however, I am disappointed with. Duke 3d always had little side rat runs where you could find surprises. The levels spread out from the central 'straight line'...

Your iPhone is keeping track of you...

I'm pretty sure that this requirement became mandatory for communication devices for the first time back in 1996. Of course, back then, anyone who mentioned it was a conspiracy theorist. It's similar to people claiming that fluoride is a toxic waste. At the moment, these people are called...

Who DOESN'T Use Facebook? (privacy concerns)

Don't use it. 90% willy waving with who can get the most strangers as 'friends' and the rest is silly sitreps on every aspect of people's lives. I know people who after a night out, the first thing they do is go on Facebook and fill out a full report. I just think the whole thing is a bit sad...

Cameron to Angela Eagle MP - 'Calm down dear'

The party political system is just an illusion of democracy. These parties are owned and paid for by cartel of financial elite consisting of corporations and private banks. it's an incredibly clever scam as they never, ever lose power. They have their bases covered with Labour, LibDem and...

    Deus Ex HR pre-order bonus

Does anyone else think that the graphics look crap on the videos? Textures look bland and the whole thing looks like typical low resolution console graphics. I hope I'm wrong because I was REALLY looking forward to this one. I know graphics aren't the be all and end all, but with a title of...

    Metro 2033 Performance

I had a ****load of problems running this on a decent rig. But it runs smooth as silk now. My problem was that I had Data Execution Prevention enabled on EVERYTHING which was slowing down access to the game files. Once I provided Metro 2033 as an exception, it runs in 1920 res, High settings and...

    Metro: 2033, trailer

STUTTERING PROBLEMS SOLVED!!! Anyone having probs running this, take heed. I am now running at 1920 res on DX10 with everything on HIGH with no stutters. Here is what I found after ****ing about with this for 3 days. Go into your system properties where you usually allocate the virtual...

I don't think you can alter hardware acceleration in win 7 64 bit. At least I haven't found the settings yet as the same idea occurred to me. Anyone know if you can alter hardware acceleration with win7?

    Metro: 2033, trailer

What sound cards? The guys who are running this game smoothly, especially if you are using an ATI card, what sound cards do you have and are they PCI or PCIE? I'm convinced my 4870X2 has more than enough horsepower to run this game smoothly. Fraps puts my framerate above 100fps most of the...

    Metro: 2033, trailer

Hopefully, they'll sort it. ATI may release drivers to increase performance. There is definite biasing against the ATI cards and in my case, the audio seems to be a factor. I remember years ago, there was a similar issue with a game on Nvidia. The audio SEEMED to be the problem but in fact it...

    Metro: 2033, trailer

I've spent 2 days fiddling. Managed to get it playable until the first firefight in the tunnels. The gunfire audio just makes the whole damned thing stutter like mad. I've even tried third party Creative drivers.

    Metro: 2033, trailer

The pauses and stutters in action moments seem to be related to audio in much the same way as the Source Engine had audio problems on first release. If they can iron out these problems and get it running smoothly on a decent rig (both Nvidia AND ATI) then this engine will be the most gorgeous...

    Metro: 2033, trailer

Ironically, I'm usually the one reading all the problem posts and wondering why people are having all these problems. First game in my 20 year gaming history I've been unable to play a game due to poor performance. The fact that I've been trying for 2 days now is a testament to my patience...

    Metro: 2033, trailer

No you don't understand. It's unplayable despite the framerate. The pauses are constant in any action and it becomes like a slideshow. Fraps reports a high framerate but the dips in framerate are so short that fraps does not get a chance to register them properly before the framerate shoots up...
