Nah, Vista is the way to go, yes you lose a few fps gaming, but overall it is a better base than XP, and it's the future, like Garlic bread!!

Sry I didn't read the OP fully m8 I have a similar cpu in my 2nd system, I've never seen these temps, there has to be a fairly simple answer to this

Sod it, also get cpuz, to check what volts are runnin through the cpu!

This may sound a bit daft lol....but I've not had that cooler Just check that the fan is not mounted backwards, feel with your hand, is it blowing outwards??? Clutchin at straws here but you never know:) Also, get speedfan & everest to check temps again?

If the cpu is idle'ing in task manager at those temps, seriously consider re-seating the cooler. It might not be that but better safe than.........

Yeah, Shadowness, that's a tutorial for the 'templates' thing I was on about, nice one.

The fix for this is pretty complicated it seems, it's to do with folder 'templates' in Vista, you could try this - http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=871 But be sure to back up your registry if you try it.

A long shot but have you tried "defragment cache files" in game options, and defrag the whole drive? A bit obv I know. Maybe go and delete the office map in Steam directory, it will re-download itself

Yeah it would be similar performance clock for clock (same speed) with the 8400, but ultimately the 8400 should overclock more and therefore be faster.
