Colne Valley Railway Shoot - 40s inspired models

I think I agree with Ejizz on pretty much all of the above points. Excellent photos, lost the images from that one particular model + a more vintage style of processing + clone out the fire escape signs, all for a more authentic feel. Top stuff though! :)

Canon 75-300mm III USM to Canon 55-250mm IS

If you can break-even (or better), then it's a no-brainer! Do it! :D

Post processing - under/over exposed images

Dependent upon the extent of the under and over exposure, you may be able to balance it with careful use of exposure sliders, like those available in Lightroom (I have no idea if you have this facility with Darktable though). Carefully balancing exposure, recovery, fill light, brightness, and...

    Ickle Shoot. (not wedding)

Very nice set Raymond. I really like the processing and agree that it suits these shots far better than the style you tend to use for wedding shots. I really like Andy's take on the processing also, although it's slightly too warm for my liking. What I'm mostly interested in is how you...

Canon 75-300mm III USM to Canon 55-250mm IS

55-250IS is available for very little cash these days. I've no idea what the 75-300 is worth, but I can't imagine that this should cost more than £50 to 'upgrade' (I use quote marks because the F4L would really be the upgrade if it were possible! :D). It's well worth a £50 upgrade in my...

Canon 75-300mm III USM to Canon 55-250mm IS

I have previously used a 75-300IS (not sure if this is the same as yours though, I get confused with the 75-300 models!) and I now own a 55-250IS. The 55-250 is built like the 18-55 kit lens (plastic, plastic, and more plastic), but performs significantly better than the 75-300 in terms of...

400D Dead - What to replace it with?

From everything that I've read here, I would say the OP would probably be best off with a 550D. This coming from a 40D user! :p But I would suggest trying a 40D first. Perhaps you could buy one and try it for a few weeks - if you don't get on with it then you probably won't lose much...

Photographs used, no payment. where do i stand.

Hopefully I'm not starting something I will regret...... but my understanding is that with contract law the last communication will stand. So for example, if I agreed to provide a service to someone and we discussed price or T&Cs, then the last communication would be the one to stand even if...

My last images I shot for...

There are some lovely images in there - but I'm not sure about the consistent crop throughout the images. Some it works brilliantly on, and is really quite innovative and creative. Others it feels forced. But overall really nice work :)

An article on why it's bad to be a pixel peeper these days

Isn't it crazy that we might be shooting in the dark yet producing low-noise images, before we can build lenses that are worthy of a 30mp sensor?!?! :D

An article on why it's bad to be a pixel peeper these days

Really interesting read. It makes a lot of sense to me! It makes you realise that the only reason we put our thoughts to lens quality is due to the fact that it's the weakest link, relative to resolution etc - because electronic manufacturing development is outpacing mechanical manufacturing...

OcUK Photo Comp - Season Ten : Round Two - "Retro" RESULTS

Thanks for the comments. I didn't hold out much hope for that photo to be honest, but was stuck for any other ideas! To answer the 'big question'!! It was a stranger, but at a friends party :)

Off camera flash - hot shoe confusion!

The background of that photo is really nice exposure for a punchy portrait. Some lighting on the subject really would have made that photo - looking forward to seeing it again with some OCF! :)

Second Lens Advice For A Newbie

I'd agree with the above advice re learning what you want to shoot first. However, a 50mm prime is a safe bet to buy as it's almost always useful for something, it's cheap, and it will easily sell second hand if you don't like it. In fact, if you buy second hand then you're unlikely to lose...
