What back GPU/s do you have ?

Lots of your backups are better than my main card! Radeon RX 570 8GB.

What back GPU/s do you have ?

A GeForce 7400GS (maybe, could be wrong). It can’t be far off 17 years old or so but it’s PCI-E and can help me eliminate GPU issues if that POSTs and any other GPU or iGPU doesn’t. It rattles round in a drawer with other dead GPUs and random tools and thermal paste. Still works. Don’t see the...

How to set up a fall-back internet connection when the primary one fails?

Switch to another ISP? I had similar sounding issues with Virgin that were due to oversubscribed local infrastructure. After 18 months of poor service I got a £12 cheque. Not sure if I even bothered cashing it! Dual connections for home is probably only a route I’d take if I was doing essential...

    HWMonitor reading 127c

127 is suspicious as that’s possibly the limit of what the sensor/software could report if it’s using 8-bit signed integers. Not an expert (someone please educate me more if you know). This would suggest an error or no connection etc. If components were hitting that you’d probably notice other...

Any monitor in portrait orientation mode?

Rotating the image is down to operating system and graphics drivers usually. I’ve not noticed using an OS in the last 20 or so years that didn’t support that. Could be some edge cases though. As for rotating the monitor, unless it comes with a really great stand that rotates nicely, usually...

Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

Was going to suggest the same. I get by with my scales and normal espresso cups as I’m using a bottomless PF and it works with the standard Gaggia Classic drip tray. The extended low profile looks ideal to me though and I’ll probably get one eventually.

Any monitor in portrait orientation mode?

Different monitors have different stands, so you’ll need to research that. Some can rotate, others fixed. You should be able to set orientation in any modern OS on the software side. If you have deep enough pockets you could also consider the LG DualUp.

why is my 2TB SSD showing up as 1TB?

Am I missing something or in your image it only shows a 90 GB partition? Was your system partition always this size perhaps? You may have just cloned that issue across as well. Perhaps you can share your partition layout for the whole drive?

    Suitcase Recommendations

I have a bright yellow samsonite hard shell, it’s awesome. Also some soft larger ones too and they have taken a lot of abuse with no issues. Depending on how able everyone is, my view was more wheels means more to potentially get broken, especially since 4 wheel models have more exposed wheels...

Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

If you're getting the prep sorted (I also use a small WDT, did seem to make tamping more even most times) and have moved your machine to 9 bar then I would say your remaining variables are grind size, grind mass vs your basket size, bean choice, bean age and temperature stability. I would only...

    Coffee grinder recommendations

Unless you can actually achieve a decent espresso level grind, the cheaper grinders are a false economy as you won't be getting anything decent from your machine. That was the issue I had.

    Coffee grinder recommendations

I have a Eureka Mignon grinder and was happy to spend almost £300 on it. May be better options now but the was the single biggest element of overall espresso prep. I think for price/performance the Sage is a good choice but depending on how into it you want to get (occasional drink versus...

Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

I suspect you want to go a fair bit finer than with that kit. I actually dialled in originally with my new grinder by going very fine and seeing the machine choke, then gradually coming back until I had 1:2 or 1:2.5 fairly regularly in 35 ish seconds. Most of the time that made an ok shot but I...

Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

27 sec is a bit fast in my experience with the classic at that ratio, but it’s hard to get consistency sometimes. Can you grind finer? I would think you’re not far off. What basket and beans are they? Also are you temp surfing or doing anything with trying to manage it? Usually for me a decent...

When are you going fully electric?

New Ford Explorer orders opened online (via Ford website) and in dealers this week, FYI. Pricing and the larger battery vehicles available to browse online. Full disclosure - I work for Ford but opinions are mine. I also went along to Everything Electric at the Excel centre London today. It’s...

What are the 30 year old plus gamers playing?

Working through Halo MCC. Pretty epic. Never had an Xbox so first experience other than playing the original multiplayer at friends houses a *cough* few years ago… Re-playing GTA IV now I got it running super smoothly, which was not possible at release or honestly about 10 years after that...

Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

I noticed a big difference, especially in being able to be more repeatable and consistent as well as better shots as a result with less channelling. Did you see an improvement?

I admire your sheer tenacity to start such a thread with a sausage sandwich. Would eat tho.

    Do you hear "The Hum"

I’ve been hearing something since getting sick only in one ear. Thought maybe the years of loud music and gigs had finally got me. However after racking my brains a bit I think it may be major roadworks a few miles away as it starts at 8PM fairly promptly every night! They are quite far away but...

    Server Noob-ish

If you’re familiar with Linux based systems then I can recommend the latest Ubuntu LTS as it’s been super stable for me on an old x86 PC used as a server. I’m using the server edition but adding a desktop environment won’t carry much overhead on something powerful. My drives are setup with ZFS...
