If you mean buying an external enclosure/adaptor that has a USB 3.0 interface then yes, as USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0. If the HDD is 3.5" then make sure that the enclosure/adaptor has an external PSU, if the HDD is 2.5" it doesn't matter.
