    Dell SSD

Unfortunately it doesnt sound as if you can recover any data from it. I would secure erase the drive and see if this kicks it back into a better life. Regds, JR

    Dell SSD

Hi Disponded, In Windows what shows up in Disk Management? Does the drive have multiple partitions? I assume the SSD was the boot drive in the Dell laptop. It is strange that there is no sign of the system files... but I dont think you should assume the drive is knackered. If you can see it...

Samsung T5 - Slow Transfer Speeds

Hi Marty, What sort of USB port have you got the T5 plugged into? I believe the T5 will only operate at its fastest speeds when using USB 3.1 Gen 2 (Please see https://www.tomshardware.com/uk/news/difference-between-usb-3.1-gen1-usb-3.1-gen2,36941.html for an explanation) If your mobo doesnt...

Can you help me with slower boot times? NVME.

Hi Zechris, This is a puzzler. On the face of it your boot times should have been about the same, perhaps a tad faster. How is the 970 Evo attached? Have you installed the Samsung driver? have you made any other changes? How did you transfer the OS from the 850 to the 970 Evo? How much slower...

msata ssd or m2 with adaptor?

Hi mdaw, It's a bit confusing. m2 is a form factor (and type of interface on a motherboard) and not a specific type of SSD; m2 was designed to support small form factor cards including SSDs . There are both m2 sata and m2 NVMe SSDs. m2 NVMe SSDs are typically faster than sata SSDs and need to...

Was a good internal hard drive to install games to ? 3-4tb

As sequential speeds are often key to game load times, I would consider getting 2 (1-2 TB) HDDs and run them in Raid 0. Not much difference in price but a significant bump in performance. Regds, JR

SDD suddenly not booting or recognized in bios

A tired subject but I feel it's best to avoid SSDs that use the SF2281 Sandforce controller.

SDD suddenly not booting or recognized in bios

Oh dear it does sound like it's gone... For interest - What model Kingston is it?

SDD suddenly not booting or recognized in bios

Hi woofercooker, I feel it is worth checking that the SSD's SATA and power connectors are plugged in nicely (sometimes they can work loose). If it's not the connectors it is sounding like there is something seriously wrong with the SSD. I think I would take it to another PC and see if it can...

    Help with SSD Install

Hi Komedy I think this is saying that you can put the 970 EVO Plus (which is a PCIe x 4 SSD) into either of your M2 slots; but if you put it into M2M_32G then the SATA4 and SATA5 ports will not be available but if you put it into M2A_32G then none of the SATA ports will be affected. So, it...

    Corsair PCIe 4.0 NVMe m.2

Wow - it's got a serious cooling solution. I doubt low queue depth random reads and writes will be any better than those we get from PCIe 3.0, as they are not limited by bandwidth. Regds, JR

    Samsung 970 EVO installation?

Hi pesst I think your m2 connector may provide only 2 lanes of PCIe. To get the best out of your Samsung 970 EVO it needs 4 lanes. If you have a PCIe slot spare with 4 or more lanes, you could use a PCIe to M2 adapter. Regds, JR

Is it worth upgrading from a HDD to a SSHD?

Hi Praz, I believe Andy mentions 'Optane Memory' as it can be used for caching data. I do enjoy caching data as it can have a dramatic effect on my user experience. I use software call Primocache. This allows me to cache data at two levels RAM and SSD. RAM is of course the fastest place to...

Is it worth upgrading from a HDD to a SSHD?

Hi Praz, It depends on the pattern of your data access. An SSHD seeks to improve access times by caching frequently accessed data in NAND. However, as the size of the Cache is relatively small compared to the underlying HDD based storage, the caching strategy obviously has limitations. For...

Disc errors detected on 850 evo

chkdsk hanging - very unusual. Assuming you can take a good backup, I would run a Secure Erase (using Magician) on the drive, to reset all the NAND to a factory fresh state and then restore the data. I feel this could sort things out. Regds, JR

Are SSDs dependent on other components?

d_breenen makes a good point, the MX500 is an excellent SSD and excellent value for money but you could get a super fast NVMe drive like the Samsung 970 EVO and put it into your mobo's M.2 NVMe slot Regds, JR

Are SSDs dependent on other components?

Hi ironic... Yes. The Crucial MX500 is a SATA 3 drive and requires a SATA port (SATA 3 to run at its best). So you are good to go. Regds, JR p.s. the MX500 is an excellent SSD. I have an MX500 as the boot drive in my Lenovo T450s laptop

Slow read/write Samsung 970 evo nvme

You can put an M2 to PCIe adapter card into your second x16 slot, which supports 8 lanes. This would reach the full potential of the 970 EVO. However as Smoogel has said, the consequence of using the second x16 slot is that the first x16 slot (where your probably have a video card) will drop...

Slow read/write Samsung 970 evo nvme

Smoogels is right you can get an adapter card. In practice I doubt you will sense any change from dropping the video card to 8 lanes.
