As far as I can say, it's coming from the hard drive. The noise changes with HD activity. I think I will RMA it, as it's only 2-3 months old.
I should be looking for another hard drive I guess....
Thanks mate.... Is it high pitched?
This has started 2-3 days ago. Before everything was dead silent. Nobody else who has the same problem? What about the mouse thingy? What could that be?
Hi
Since a couple of days I've noticed a weird noise from my Shuttle SD11G5 (Pentium M 770, 2GB, Samsung HD, evga 7800GT). Whenever the computer is "doing something" (accessing HD), i get a high pitched (annoying!!) noise. I already opened it up but can't seem to locate where it's coming...
In Rivatuner > Power User tab there is an option for the minimum fan speed you can set. If you set this option to 0, you can get it as low as..euh....0%. I wouldn't advise this though ;)
Anyway, this way you can get it even lower.
About the price of the SD11G5: ok, it's a little steep, but with the other shuttles you have to buy new fans and other stuff to get your system quiet. In the end, it's not that much more expensive for those wanting a silent system.
I've tried 4 or 5 of them. Practically impossible to get them totally silent (as this is what I'm after)....
Until I found the SD11G5. External PSU, Pentium M, Samsung HD and a 7800GT of which the fan is slowed down with Rivatuner. Except for some vibrations, it's totally silent. And still...
I know, i saw you pictures ;)
Problem is i'm considering buying the HIS X850XT. There you have it pre-fitted. But when you have to RMA it (you never know) with a bite out of the card.... seems a bit hard to explain.....
Been reading through this topic as i'm planning on buying a DFI Ultra. I only got one problem: the arctic cooler thingy. Is there no way to plug in a VGA card with this cooler on it (the HIS ones neither?)?
I really want silence and i think standard X850 coolers are noisy and don't perform...
