    Star Trek: Picard

Starfleet engineers are renowned for their ability to turn rocks into replicators. Are we really to believe nobody on the ship could bodge together a power adaptor to feed holodeck power into the main systems?

Contactless payments to increase to £100 from 15/10

I support this. Whenever I buy petrol, it always costs just slightly over the £45 limit. It's annoying.

That makes more sense. I did wonder why they seemed to have such a low opinion of the Royal Navy, given that Portugal was neutral for most of the war.

The Slave Trade Act 1807, officially An Act for the Abolition of the Slave Trade,[1] was an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom prohibiting the slave trade in the British Empire. Although it did not abolish the practice of slavery, it did encourage British action to press other nation...

Images of items I have purchased (except trainers)

It's new. And yes, buying physical gold comes at a premium over the spot price. I think it's worth it, but ymmv.

That's a gold sovereign, because I'm apparently a swanky git. 0.235 troy ounces of gold. Technically legal tender with a face value of £1. It cost... more than that.

The Suez Canal is currently not blocked

Does anyone know why this doesn't happen more often? Did the ship just happen to lose power at a particularly narrow point?

Shoppers 'to be charged 20p on plastic bottles & Metal Cans under return scheme

As long as the facilities are available to conveniently return the bottles and cans (preferably at the shop I bought the items from in the first place), I'm okay with this. If the nearest return point is five miles away, then I'm going to have a good moan about it.

    Rip-off Britain - inflation is 5% now?

Pretty much this. The only way to win the game is to opt out of it - convert your worthless coupons into real money like gold, silver, and bitcoin. Liquidate them only as needed to pay for food, bills, taxes, etc. As for this ISP nonsense, OP should shop around. ISPs might be friendlier to...

    Deep Fakes

It feels like yesterday that I saw my first deepfake and thought it looked terrible and obviously fake. Now you have to look pretty closely to spot that it's fake. It feels like it won't be long before deepfakes are indistinguishable from real video. At that point, it'll be an arms race...

    The Expanse

That's pretty much how it played out in the book, although I think Fred's stroke-out death was actually in a later fight in the next book. But yeah, they did the best they could, it's just unfortunate that it still feels a bit abrupt because of how they had to edit it in after filming had finished.
