About to go buy a sock for my neck and some winter gloves!

I got a free neck thing from HG when I bought my gloves and it was worth every penny of the £10 I would have paid for it. I'd consider one a worthy investment - wore it all the time in the summer.

Motorbike insurance companies - recommend me some good ones

CIA brokers got me the best bike insurance, I actually got it through the dealer when I bought my (new) bike last year, and it was cheaper than any online quote at the time.

    Just passed my motorbike test!

I assume for most here the increase in cost for FC is worth it, because if you come off your blade, regardless of how you end up, you're still not going to to want to be in that situation and a few thousand pounds / a bike worse off. Also the price difference may not be much at all between FC...

    Clutch down, engine on?

Always have done, some cars I've had require it and some don't, and I think it's a good habit to get into. Plus every bike I've ridden required clutch in before the engine could be started.

    Kawasaki ER-6f @ £3500

Not sure if it's directly comparable, but my bandit 650 took roughly 7 seconds to 60 and the front would not lift up at all, and the SV 650 would take a little longer to 60 but you could get mini power wheelies with it. Both were ECU restricted, not sure what the de-restricted times would be...

    Kawasaki ER-6f @ £3500

Probably just took the A2 test which is two years restriction at 33bhp. Ie, didn't do DAS. I did my training and test on a variety of 125s, but stuck with a YBR for the final thing.

    What I need to do?

CBTs are courses run all over the country, generally lasting a single day. Look for your nearest bike school - they'll run a CBT. It lasts for two years unless you take a full test, in which case your licence takes precedence. You can turn up in a thick-ish coat and jeans and sturdy boots and...

    Motorcycle Levers

No direct recommendations for the er-6f, but as a general thought I found shortened levers much more comfortable, especially if you have smaller hands. I think they're generally better looking, too.

Swapping my car - worth it?

Why the £700 figure? Surely everyone has their own cut-off price depending on various factors?

@ The bikers, Need a bike cover

I used an oxford one (not sure the of the specifics) and it worked fine, just ensure any bare metal is covered, especially brakes.

Booked CBT test next Saturday - clothing advice

I tried borrowing gloves but found other people's sweat pretty minging, so gloves are one thing that I would buy new (apart from helmet, which I'd only buy second hand if I knew the person selling it well enough to be convinced it was treated well). You can get good helemets for about £60-£70.

    Britain's scariest roads revealed

Hundreds of miles per year. When compared with the average miles in a year, it's not even that much.

    Motorbikers - theoretical question

Normal operation for a right turn at moderate speed: tweak handlebars slightly to left to initiate counter steer and make bike slightly unstable, putting forces on tire such that bike begins to turn right. Lean into corner and straighten bars up, possibly turning bars slightly right. To...

    Motorbikers - theoretical question

Yup, completely agree, see my point about stabilisation at low speed. The weight of you leaning combined with the force you are exerting in the same direction as your weight. I think it's pretty much impossible given the forces involved (weight of rider and max force exerted acting as a...

    Motorbikers - theoretical question

See, I think you could, as long as you were strong enough to physically force the bike to hold the correct lean angle, and return once you've completed the turn. You'd have to throw your weight around and push against the tank (or the fixed handlebars). Incidentally, I think it would be...

    Motorbikers - theoretical question

I am agreeing with you! Sorry if it came across differently.

    Motorbikers - theoretical question

You're pushing your body against the (essentially immovable at high speed) handlebars which is shifting your weight and allowing the bike to turn.

    Motorbikers - theoretical question

Theoretically, yes. practically, no. You've have to shift your own weight to make the bike lean - similar to how you can cycle with no hands on a pedal bike. This would be possible, but the weight of the motorbike compared with your own weight (and strength) means it wouldn't be practical.
