    Surge protection for ethernet?

Hi all. I have Zzoomm full fibre, FTTP. Last night my area suffered a power cut. At some stage in the subsequent return of power to the area, a surge fried both the ethernet cable connecting my main TP Link Deco X60 (the main node, acting as my router) to the inside wall fibre connection box...

What PC games are you playing?

Haven't really played any of the Far Cry games since number 4, which I completed back when it was released... so given that is 9 years ago, this week I decided to buy number 5 and give that a go. Glad I did... brilliant, brilliant mindless fun.

    Assassin's Creed Mirage

I literally haven't bought/played any of the AC games since Black Flag, which I absolutely loved. I see there is much debate about which of of the most recent ones is best... any recommendations on which one(s) might entertain me given the last new PC game I played is Death Stranding?

5700X not downclocking as previous iterations did

Random question... My Ryzen 2700X, and subsequently my 3700X; I had power settings in Windows (10) set to downclock them when idle (balanced, or power saver pre-sets). Both CPU's would drop to 2.2ghz when idle, which was nice as fans would be quiet and temps were around 28 degrees. This was on...

What's your personal GOAT ? (Game of all time)

Eve. I lost 2.5 years of my life, along with a (probably doomed anyway) relationship to this game. Some would say its not good that a game can have affect your life in that way, arguably for the worse - But when I hear the login splash screen music from the 'Second Genesis' period of the game...

What PC games are you playing?

Enjoying a re-run of Dishonoured at the moment - amazing game. Probably do Dishonoured 2 after that. My house extension seems to have sucked my life away for the last year. I bought the Witcher 3 a couple of years ago and have never got round to installing it... thats my plan for next year...

What would be best home network/wifi coverage solution for me?

Speed mainly. They are an AC1200 kit. I read somewhere that for wireless gaming, streaming etc, where you have a fast connection, really you should be looking at APs that are AC1900 or better.

What would be best home network/wifi coverage solution for me?

Looking or any suggestions as to what would be my best solutions for home network/wifi coverage? Recently had a FTTP network being installed in my local area and today I've been hooked up with a new 450mb connection. My 2 storey house consists of a footprint of approximately 70sq/m. My old BT...

    Struggling to enjoy gaming?

Guess it must be an age thing, as I'm the same to a degree. The games that I've literally lost myself in over the last 15 years, are limited to Bioshock, Far Cry 2 and 3, Fallout 3, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and Blackflag, Skyrim, and GTA IV and V. I've dipped in and out of other games of...

Quest 2 accessories - recommendations, reviews etc

Where did you input your email to receive stock notification? Or did you sign up for their newsletter, which I do see a link to. I'd like one of them when they come back in stock (again!).

    Upgrade CPU, or RAM?

Scratching the itch at the moment...but trying to do it reasonably sensibly. Would you upgrade CPU (currently on 2700X), or instead make the jump from 16 to 32GB RAM? I'm guessing the RAM upgrade maybe the better bet...

Annual investigation into which VR headset to get proves too much (again!)

All good advice, thanks. House needs a new roof this year, and we've a baby arriving next week; so my money is tied up for a while! The VR is a joint birthday present from some immediate family members, thus cost is a significant factor. So I've gone with the Quest 2...I think its certainly a...

Annual investigation into which VR headset to get proves too much (again!)

I think I first thought about PC VR when my son got the PSVR headset when it came out 4 years ago. I looked into it then, and decided I'd wait. Each year (usually in the lead up to my birthday) I have another look, and each time I think surely there will be a clearer answer this year! After...

    CPU History

Intel 486 DX2 50 (circa 1994) Intel Celeron (1998ish - bought 2nd hand, was told it was a Pentium...it wasn't!) Intel Pentium III 800 (late 1998 - big white tower case, contained first DVD player I ever had - Played Deus Ex on this, a true highlight of my gaming life) AMD Athlon 1800 (2002ish -...

The Sandy, Ivy and Haswell (Hazzy?) Upgrade Thread

I think nowadays I tend to think that 'waiting' for x or y bit of tech to be released because "you've waited this long so you may as well wait some more", can drag things out a bit....as there is almost ALWAYS something else to wait for; so it becomes a bit drawn out. But of course everyone's...

    Red Dead Redemption 2

Had no crashes at all for the last two or three weeks. Since yesterday's update, can't play more than 30 minutes without complete freeze up and crash. Mental.

    Why are GPUs so expensive?

Just checked my account from another online tech retailer; January 2005, I bought an ATI X800XT 256MB for £380. Must have been off my rocker. Pretty sure I replaced it with an X1950 sometime around 2006/7. If I recall correctly it was the most powerful AGP connector card you could get. Don't...
