I've driven my Mk1 Focus 1.6 with 4 people and a boot full of luggage and it's absolutely fine. It's a bit sluggish pulling away from lights when loaded this much, but after that it's absolutely fine.

One thing to note is that they might not be too happy about having a GB sticker stuck on their hire car :p Better off with a magnetic jobby.
