    12VHPWR already obsolete

Replaced by 12V-2×6 in ATX 3.1 CEM 5.1 specs are out. You won't need a new PSU if your PSU didn't use a 12+4 on PSU side. So Corsair are fine. https://hwbusters.com/news/no-more-12vhpwr-connector-say-hi-to-12v-2x6/ I wouldn't want to be holding a 4090 with a 12VHPWR right now assuming Nvidia...

When do you know your CPU is throttling your system?

at 4k you might get away with it. But you do you game at 4k with a 4070? I remember upgrading from a 2500k to a 4790k and I thought, 'meh'. But I then I got a 8086k and it blew the doors off at 1200p.

    i7 5820K upgrade to i7 14700K or wait?

I remember the glory days with when you'd get 2x the CPU performance every year, or even less than a year, and with a GPU treble the FPS in Quake 2/3 every year, and now you have to wait 8 years for a doubling of performance, lol. I kinda liked sticking it to The Man with my SL2QG @ 448mhz

    4080 power usage

So I bought the bequiet! adaptor, got the 4080, and it works fine. The only problem is the card is so huge there's little horizontal clearance for the cable so I can't put the side of the case back on, but I don't really mind that. I don't want to bend the cable given the issues with this new...

Worst ask: Good gaming and good productivity

Yeah, I said in this thread or another thread that there's no difference at 4k between a 5800x3d and 7800x3d. But that cache helps with old RTS and MMO games like WoW. And the 7800x3d uses much less power, which is why I lean toward it.

    How old is too old?

My Dark Power Pro is still going strong after 9 years. It's a beast. Money well spent.

Worst ask: Good gaming and good productivity

7800X3D hands down. You won't notice the different in productivity compared to say a 14700k.

    4080 power usage

Cheers, this cable is precisely what I need. I just wish it was in stock! https://www.overclockers.co.uk/be-quiet-12vhpwr-pci-e-adapter-cable-cb-000-bq.html

    4080 power usage

    4080 power usage

PSU isn't ATX 3.0 so doesn't have the 12VHPWR. if the Palit gets away using 2x then so will this. I mean my 3080 currently uses 335w.

    4080 power usage

yeah I'm looking at the MSI GeForce RTX 4080 16GB GAMING X TRIO which I think comes with a 3x adapter but I'm 100% I'll be fine with 2 since its 2x150W + 75w from the slot.

    4080 power usage

Thinking of getting a 4080. Does it require 2x8 pin PCIE (via the adapter) or 3? Because I can't find the second PCIE cable that came with my Dark Power Pro, which I bought about a decade ago. I run a 3080 fine with 2 and I know the 4080 uses slightly less power.

When the Gpu's prices will go down ?

and the issue with MSRP is miners bought the cards no matter what the price was because it was all profit. It didn't matter. Gamers are different. We won't pay *any* price for a 4080.

When the Gpu's prices will go down ?

Prices are hitting MSRP for the first time since 2019, then factor in the 8 million used cards to hit the market in August - yea I think we will see 3080 <£500. its already £700! It's going to be interesting to see how NV price the 4k series given it will be a buyers market.
