    Nissan Almera 1998 Not Starting

Check the battery voltage, should be 12v, also make sure the battery terminals and cables are corrosion free and clean, and also check for the same thing on the starter. Go from there :)

MX5 Owners in here....bring your curling tongs

Hi there, looking at changing my current car (1.2 clio) but struggling to find anything that I can run to work everyday and insure. Could any of you give me an insight as to whether this would be a good idea or not and how much it would cost to run in comparison? Cheers

    Hissing hose

First I'd replace that clip with a jubilee clip, you don't need to take the pipe off just move that clip down and cut it off. Undo the jubilee clip so that it goes over the pipe then tighten it up. It it still leaks replace the pipe, and as mentioned above, may as well replace the coolant as...

Curious as to the cause of this epic failure.

Diesel engine runaway, worn piston rings, leaking turbo seals :) Blocking the air intake is generally the best way to stop it, providing you cant stall it. One reason you should change oil and filters regularly ;)

Need a new socket set: Halfords Pro or ?

I agree I wouldn't bother with imperial unless you need it, I personally much prefer 6-point sockets to 12, but they can be very useful. Anything you find yourself needing just add to you collection quietly, as there's the chance that if you but a massive kit you might find you wont use quite a...

Need a new socket set: Halfords Pro or ?

Halfords proffesional is pretty good, I have 1/4 and 3/8ths set at work and it's brilliant. I also have a bahco 1/2 set 6 point and it's great too :-) Clarke stuff isn't bad either.

    Car Buying adv needed

Coolant colour should generally be orange/red/green and not murky or have oils sat on top. Engine oil should generally be light to dark amber (depending on age) and not black and thin or sludgy, and the engine should start well and runs smoothly. Check for knocks whilst turning and whether...

Buying and Insuring a first car for £3500-4000

I test drove a 1.4 Lupo with 40k on the clock and it was very nice to drive and nippy considering it's like a go kart, as for reliabilty I can't tell you on that one.

What have you done to your car today?

Well yesterday I (hopefully) cured my leaky sunroof my Clio. Stripped the sun roof out, cleaned off the old foam gasket and applied some silicone sealant. Just need to trim off the excess which splurged out when I clamped it back down.

Buying and Insuring a first car for £3500-4000

When I was looking for my first car, the VW Lupo was the cheapest to insure by miles for some reason, and the 1.4 is quite nippy too ;). My best quotes also came direct from the Liverpool Victoria website, so I would give them a shot.

    How to tap/thread a hole?

Yes that tap should be fine so long as you don't need the thread to go to the very bottom. The ratchet tap handle you linked is great, so long as you have the room to use it.
