    Q acoustics 3020

OK, I don't have a lot to compare it to, but the PS Audio Sprout seems to be a mighty fine amp to me. Way more involving - ie I'm spending more time choosing what to listen to next, and enjoying it more. I'm still waiting for my Isoacoustic stands to come, so have high hopes for even more...

    Help bookshelf speakers selection

One thing about buying used is that you may be able to try at home and sell on for little if any loss, though keep postage costs in mind. Way better than a demo in a shop in my opinion..

    Q acoustics 3020

Well, I might have a (used) PS Audio Sprout on its way to me. No idea what it sounds like, but it can always be sold on if it doesn't live up to the few reviews I've read... Hopefully its ok to post this. http://www.hifichoice.co.uk/news/article/ps-audio-sprout/21385

    Q acoustics 3020

Again, many thanks. I'll look into your suggestions as none of them mean anything to me (i've not looked at this sort of thing for many years..) I'm in no big rush, but you know how these things are - you get an itch, and boy, does it need scratching.....

    Q acoustics 3020

Many thanks - I had looked at the PMA 50, which seems to get a lot of praise, but know that the new Rega Brio seems to work pretty well, though all I am comparing it to is the SMSL. I have a problem with space, which is why I like small format amps, and even the Rega is a bit big... As for what...

    Q acoustics 3020

Do you use the isoacoustics tilting stand - If so, how do you rate them - I've been wondering about trying something like them - also, what amp do you use ? I've got some Concept 20's, currently using a tiny smsl amp but considering something like a Rega Brio, but also thinking about putting the...

    New build, old case

Thanks for the reply - I didn't explain, but the current system has begun to misbehave.. It often doesn't start up properly (windows doesn't start, due to a power surge, which I assume to be the PSU) and a few times I've had a BSOD. This has happened while I've been working away leaving my wife...

    New build, old case

I have a BitFenix Prodigy MATX case that I want to keep, but the innards need to be renewed. Currently I have an i5 3579K with 8gb ram which must be about 5-6 years old. I'll be keeping most of the 'other' bits but need a new Mobo, CPU (and cooler) and RAM, possibly 16gb. No real reason but I've...

Any point overclocking for less than 50%?

As one who has never overclocked or played any games I have never really understood what a faster processor gives an average user - that said, it won't stop me buying a 3570k soon...! However, when trying to work out what to upgrade on the odd occasions that I do it seems very hard to find out...

So, who else has messed up when putting the bits together...?

OK, so it is only my second build, but I was doing so well until I discovered that the back plate needed to be fitted before the entire install was done - cables all carefully tucked away, screws all tightened and even the side panels fitted before I realized that the back plate needed to be...

    Anti-static bags for motherboards ?

Brilliant - many thanks ! Next time I do need to google before posting....

    Anti-static bags for motherboards ?

Anyone know how to get hold of one ? I want to sell an old mobo and the box and bag are 250 miles away hidden in an attic - can they be bought separately ?

    I hate fan filters!

Cheers acme15 ! I have Noctua fans as quiet is important to me and I guess they are pretty good... Air flow and heat are not likely to be a problem for me as my build will be pretty basic.

    I hate fan filters!

So just how good are the DEMCiflex filters then ? Also has anyone had any experience of getting some custom ones made - I may be asking them to sell me some of the filter material without any of the magnet fixings to cover all the holes in my impending build -I don't like hoovering !

    Experience With Non-techies?

My Mum is 84, so that has to be some sort of excuse, but I often get a phone call that starts with "the computer has done this" to which my reply is "no, a computer only does what it is told to" I am no techie but I do realize that a computer is a machine that relies on instructions rather than...

    Moving to Mini ITX

i'd be interested to hear (see what I did there !) how quiet you find the 230mm fan with its 7v adaptor in place when you get it running - along with dust I also dislike fan noise..

    Moving to Mini ITX

Very reassuring Diagro - thanks again ! I guess I may end up with some stocking material attached to the inner mesh anyway, but will see how it goes when my case arrives on Monday !

    Moving to Mini ITX

I figured as much Liam, but having had a few fans refuse to spin up under low voltage wasn't sure, but given the investment it has to be worth a try...! However, from what I interpreted from a webnote from OC'UK the mesh grills do not have a filter - there is a mesh on the case, but not a...
