Has anyone attempted to become rich?

It’s funny how this the default way of thinking for some. If you don’t up your consumerist lifestyle to match your salary, then you are “boring”, not living etc.

    Moving to Cheshire

I live in Wilmslow and have worked on and off in Wigan over the past couple of years. Get used to the locals?...I have pretty much classed it as working abroad:D

42.3% of Londoners have less than £100 in savings

From my mid twenties I have kept a healthy cash buffer. Whilst I don't scrimp, I also don't buy the latest/greatest/most I can afford of everything and do consider whether I actually need something. I think as with most things, its about balance. I feel I have lot more freedom in my life now...

    Induction Hobs

I miss my induction hob. Cant wait to get the kitchen done at my new place and get rid of the gas. I'd definitely recommend the neff hob with magnetic dial. No faffing with finicky touch buttons but easily removed for cleaning / locking hob. I guess other manufacturers probably do this now also.

    Cycle Lanes: Right of Way

I hate these threads, always seems to be people desperate to fit in to their pre-defined "tribes" I'm a driver, cyclist and pedestrian. I see terrible driving, cycling and pedestrian...ing. I pay more road tax than most people. (especially the "type" that like to stop and tell you this)...

Move down south - would you do it?

    Don't worry yourself about it

Move down south - would you do it?

Its more a big city thing than a London thing. Its due to the more transient nature of the population. But don't let me get in the way of old fashioned stereotypes.

Move down south - would you do it?

I had a similar choice and decided not to do it. Really consider everything, money, lifestyle, family/friends and also personal ambition/drive. I like both places too which made the choice harder. The thing that swung it for me was that I'm not driven enough to really take advantage of "the...

Brexit thread - what happens next

Its not like Cameron has stopped it from happening is it? Leavers are on getting their knickers in a twist because a) they are wondering if anyone is actually going to have the testicles to do it and b) if they do, they wont have anyone else to blame.

    Manchester folk, in ere

If you want none chain stuff go to the Northern Quarter which is near Piccadilly. Looks quite run down and industrial but has tonnes of good places to eat but mostly places to drink. As mentioned Almost Famous, luck Lust Liquor & burn, SoLita, etc If you are going further...

Tax - how much of your gross do you pay?

Most one man bands/contractors/freelancers will have this setup. They tend to pay much more tax than their employed counterparts too, especially those VAT registered. edit: urgh, I've annoyed my self with the use of "setup". Lets make that "are using a correct payment structure for Ltd...

    online banking apps

Never had any issue with the Natwest app (which I've used for years) or the Santander app. Much easier than faffing around with the login screen on the full website. I can't believe people do that on mobiles!

How much debt are you in and what for?

Sold my house and renting whilst I search for the next place so I'm very much not in debt for the first time apart from a student loan of around £5000

    Bring back British Summer time!!

Human logic at its finest... Design a perfectly reasonable time system where the middle of the day corresponds with the suns highest point...then decide to make the working day not quite align with that...THEN decide the reasonable solution is not to get up earlier but to change the bloody time!!

    Rant - London rent prices...

Sometimes I feel like telling my "London friends" that my mortgage is half the price of their flat share and will be paid off in < 5 years, well done on earning 10k a year more than me. Apparently there are no jobs in Manchester and it rains 26 hours a day. On a purely selfish note, its probably...
