Hi SkeeterPSA, i've always used ATi cards. At the moment i've got an HD4850 1GB and that is a bit of a beast, handles Crysis on max settings at 1920 res no problem. Cant say much about the nvidia card though.
If there are particular games you play i'd have a look for some reviews to see if...
I would say that it could be either the motherboard or chip, but have sometimes seen memory problems do similar things; some boards dont always behave as they should for giving beep codes. Check your memory first (it never hurts). If you say everything else is powering up your psu sounds ok...
I'd go completly with what wasc has said. A SAS DAS box attached to your existing server should do the trick, have a look at a Dell MD3000. Its got connectors on the back for 4 machines to use it (if you go for the dual storage processor version) and you'll be able to have a hidious amount of...
If your old PSU blew you never know exactly what damage it may have caused (if any) and problems dont always appear striaght away.
As the other guys have said have a look at your current PSU, see if there are any probs with this. Otherwise it could well be your motherboard isnt to happy.
The IDE interface on a laptop HDD (2.5") has both the data and power pins in the same block and as others have said is smaller.
As sharlaw has said if you want to use the drive on a desktop machine you'll have to use an adapter. If you want a nice caddy for it for external use have a look at...
iWork - Makes any presentations you look decent rather then death by powerpoint
Safari - even though it's on Windows now :)
Bootcamp - gotta love having Win7 on my Mac laptop. Gives me the best of both worlds.
If the boards still in warrenty period they have to give something of equal cost/spec or better, thats the law. They cant get around that. If they're giving you trouble i'd have a chat with trading standards. That sometimes gives the problem companys a kick they need. There are also time...
I'd go with RJC on the Gigabyte front, great boards. I'd try and get an as upto date chipset as you can though. The 775 socket boards havent had any refreshes for a while due to the 7i chips comming out. If your budget can go as far as £100 id have a look at this. This has got a x48 which was...
I've just got the 13" version. Was used to a 15.4" Dell precision M65 for the last three years but its more then usable. Great battery life, really nice keyboard and the trackpad is brilliant.
I've been with VM for about 7 years and they're not bad at all now. Im on the 50mbit service and (fingers crossed) not had a problem yet. The downloads can get a bit slow during peak times, mainly in the evening.
They're support a few years a go got fairly poor, but i think since its improved...
I've not long got a Soundblaster XFi Titanium and its by far the best card i've owned yet. I've had a couple of previous XFi models and you can hear an improvment in sound quality between them.
I'd get a proper cooler that says it has support for am3. I'm not a AMD expert, but the am3 socket chips are likely to be more powerful then the am2 and will probably a bit more cooling.
As the other guys have said it would be as good as a new machine. Dell computers are fairly difficult to upgrade the core components. At best you'll only ever be able to do things like HDD, graphics etc.
