I'm just guessing, but as it's an AMD system in question, it would be possible to simply sit a second 120mm fan on the top of the Fenrir, without actually having to fix it in place.
Just installed mine today, as my Corsair H50 is being RMA'd due to a dodgy pump - it clicks, and has been...
It's not that bad if it's smooth. If it's 15fps as an average of much higher and lower values on a very short time scale, the result is a mess, and feels very jumpy to play. If it's a smooth 15fps all the time, it's much better. Like I said, anything over a smooth 25fps seems fine to me. I'm...
I'd be interested to know what your min and max values are. Personally though, anything above about 25fps (if constant/smooth) looks the same to my eyes. The first time I played through oblivion it was on this old laptop with 15-20fps at all times; It didn't really bother me. As a result it...
Potentially stupid question: surely if you're already getting 70fps, a CPU upgrade will make no difference? My monitor, for example, has a 60Hz refresh rate, so anything above 60fps will look and feel exactly the same, no?
Thanks,
Yslen
Presumably he doesn't run both machines simultaneously.
Have you played GTA IV? Opinions on the game aside, the engine sucks majorly. It looks nice, but for some reason is really taxing on the CPU while the GPU isn't allowed to attempt anything that might be too difficult. The result is the...
I got your point already, don't worry. If a person was for whatever reason trying to spend exactly X amount on a system, you would be completely right. Personally though, I don't think having a fixed budget is the way to go about it, I think people just give a number because it makes others more...
Sorry, probably partly my fault the thread is still going...
An i7 spec machine is just overkill for most things, and it would be a waste of money to spec one for people only doing "most things", rather than really intensive stuff that would make use of all that power. Given how fast hardware...
May I assume that you drive a Zonda F, take your family snapshots on a D3X, fly everywhere 1st class and only buy designer clothes? If yes to all of those, I'm more than a little bit jealous. If no to any of them, surely you can understand how the majority of people would rather have "enough"...
Exactly. I went for the X3 720 BE, because I wanted to see how far I could overclock it. It's way more power than I need, to be honest. Aside from GTA IV I could have stuck with my 5000+ @ 3.2GHz. Still, I'll be interested to see where all this 6-core stuff leads...
But are they useful gains?
I'd be very surprised if they are. Either the game is CPU limited by having a huge amount of graphics horsepower onboard, in which case we're beyond 60fps anyway OR the CPU limit has been forced by lowering the resolution for the test, which is something that's...
I agree with you 100% there, it's very important to look at quality/support etc when making purchasing decisions.
For my first build I spent extra on the motherboard, psu and case compared to my other components to make sure I got stuff that would last. By contrast I went for a cheap (£39)...
I imagine the default standpoint of anyone asking for advice is that they want to save money. If they have a fixed amount of money that they HAVE to spend on PC hardware, what the heck do they need advice for? Just buy the fastest and most expensive hardware your budget will cover, anyone who...
@easyrider
Surely;
budget-->best for money-->buy PC
is the wrong way to do things? This benefits the company, not the consumer. The more logical way to decide what to buy would be;
use for PC --> power needed --> best value for that power --> buy PC
The first method will result in people...
Fun thread!
Don't forget Intel has a rep for changing their socket every time they bring out a new product. I'm still using my AM2+ board, and it's still compatible with everything AMD is making.
Also, wondering what games you guys are playing that need quad cores? Surely you'd have to be...
Probably cheaper to buy and fit fans yourself if you're happy to do it.
Corsair recommends you put the H50 radiator on the inside of an intake fan, so you have;
Outside of case --> FAN --> H50 Radiator --> Inside of case
with the direction of the arrows showing airflow. You of course...
I would also like to see this test repeated with the same fan used for both coolers. I imagine most people who bothered to spend so much on a cooler would at least be willing to drop another £10 on a decent fan, rather than the mediocre corsair (and presumably equivalently mediocre) coolIT ones.
I'd say you get pretty good airflow across the motherboard with the H50, or at least I do in my case. My NB temps haven't changed since the H50 was installed, anyway.
