    6950 or GTX570

Radeons absolutely suck in BF3 right now. Embarassing for AMD. They really don't need this, y'know, after Bulldozer. EDIT: numbers already posted.

    Battlefield 3 has stopped working.

Your game copy is tethered to your Origin account, so good luck with that.

    ***The Official Battlefield 3 Thread***

Why would you post that pathetic little postage-stamp sized comparison? Oh right, it's to try to minimise the inferiority of the version you'll be playing. Having looked at properly proportioned videos of both, the PC version massacres it. Humiliates it even. Textures, lighting...

    Xbox 360 & PS3 vs PC graphics

I agree. Problem-free PC gaming is actually ridiculously easy, which from where I'm sitting makes the issues sub-optimal specimens like SonicUK and thedoc46 constantly seem to encounter all the more amusing. For the record, doc46? My hardware spits out over 100 fps in F12010. That's like...

    NEW Crysis 2 sp trailer

Anyone who thinks the console version will look even half as good as that should probably quit gaming and, y'know, life. Blatantly PC footage.

*** The Official ATI Radeon HD 6970 & 6950 Reviews, Discussion and Overclocking Thread ***

The problem is that GTX 570 and 6970 have almost identical performance, and the 570 is cheaper. That is an Nvidia win. By all means though, feel free to rationalise away that little fact with the kind of wilfull leaps of logic and lies the AMD faithful is famous for. I'd expect nothing less.

    NVIDIA Prepping dual-GPU GF104 card

You add so much to this forum. Apparently Nvidia have shipped over 400,000 Fermi-based cards to date. This very site is replete with 480/470 stock, which is interesting because I remember you and others repeatedly stating that they would never make it to retail in any real numbers. I mean...

Have I really got a bottleneck?

ATi weren't ready with the drivers for this one. I've read a lot of glowing reports of how well it runs on Nvidia cards and, uh, very mixed ones about ATi. Game looks amazing though. I expect a 10.5 Preview will fix a lot of that. 10.4a is the driver to use for now.

    480 SLI the value choice?

The vagueries of non-like-for-like, CPU-limited and occasionally VRAM-limited scaling results don't interest me, but this bit does: "I knew this 800W 80 PLUS Gold unit would be fine for a pair of GeForce GTX 480s, but I was unsure if it'd handle a trio. Despite power numbers that crested 900W...

any benefits of more than 6gb

Metro maxed uses less than 2 gigs of RAM. Just Cause 2, an open world sandbox where you can traverse the entire 60 sq mile game world without loading, uses roughly 1.5. Anyone who plumps for 8GB of RAM thinking it'll boost their Metro performance, or the performance of almost any game for...

Yup, it's called the human eye. Microstutter's one of those things you can't fail to spot if it occurs. I had 260 SLI for over a year, now I'm on 5870 Crossfire, I have never seen or experienced microstutter on any game, in any circumstance, ever. It's a thing of the past that a lot of people...

    Sell My 2 HD5870s for 2 GTX 470s???

Nowhere near as good as 2x5870 run it without the Cuda water; I have more than double the framerate that GTX 480 SLI gets due to how much performance that one feature takes away. Seriously, you'll either forget about the Cuda water five seconds after enabling it or you'll just turn it off...

Why does metro run so bad?

It runs like a greased up bronco for me on 5870 Crossfire, DX11 Very High settings. It sucked on my old 2xGTX 260 SLI. One 5870 ran the game much better, setting for setting, than they did which was a massive surprise given all the Nvidia backing/branding the game has. That 260 SLI destroyed...

Crysis Trouble (Will Not Allow Enthusiest Settings)

A stock i7 920 would strangle the life out of 5870 Crossfire. Bad enough for one 5870, running two with the CPU stuck at 2.6 is just a urine extraction. Back in t'day, taking my i7 from stock to 3.2 with 2x260 SLI saw more than 20% performance gain in the Crysis GPU benchmark. Recently...

    GTX 480/ HD 5870

No. Guru3D hit 857 Core on their GTX 480 with just a mild voltage bump, stock air cooling; 1000 core on a 5870 is not a proportionate match for that kind of clock and would most probably lose to it overall in games. Anecdotally, I've seen forum posts claiming stable 480 overclocks of over...

    GTX 480/ HD 5870

Wow okay, you keep quoting those same stats again and again as if they're Gospel. I've seen other BC2 benches which show 5870 smashing GTX 480 (Anandtech), and yet more BC2 benches which show them as being about even. One can assume that benching different parts of the game will yield...

    PC gaming expense ?

All of them. Last five PC purchases from memory: Modern Warfare 2, Mass Effect 2, Bad Company 2, Metro 2033 and Just Cause 2. They all worked perfectly first time and continued to work perfectly thereafter. Hell, BC2 and Metro launched perfectly first time on both Vista and W7, DX9/10/11...

***THE OFFICIAL GTX480/470 END USER REVIEW THREAD***

I'm caning 'Cause 2 myself right now (best knockabout sandbox I've ever played, btw) and I've gotta say, those are absolutely terrible scores; running *Crossfire 5870s with an i7 [email protected] completely destroys those results. 1080p, everything maxed with 4xAA, I get 119 fps on the Dark Tower...
