    13700KF to 7800X3D

I love reading these threads on this forum. OP looking for advice/justification regarding what can be best described as a "dubious upgrade" or "sidegrade". Everyone confirms that it is a total waste of money. OP goes ahead with it anyway and will be along in a few days to tell us the...

    Monitor losing signal in game

I had this issue and tried all kinds of fixes from frame rate limiting, rolling back drivers, custom resolutions, editing the freesync range with CRU, various types of cables, different inputs, limiting the clocks of my GPU etc.. The problem was so intermittent that I couldn't reliably...

All hail the new Steam Survey king, the RTX3060

The mainstream/low end Nvidia cards are always top of the steam surveys and it helps that the 3060 has finally dropped below £300 which is what most people will find acceptable to pay for a GPU. The lack of competition and amount of whales are fuelling your £700 mid range GPUs. All this fluff...

Opinion - The 7800xt is not a good value card at it's current price when compared to a 4070

I don't think we're in any danger of Sony/Microsoft going to Nvidia, console gamers really don't care about ray tracing etc. They just want a box that plays the latest COD and FIFA to a decent level on their TV. Whilst the consoles are powered by AMD ray tracing will continue to be an optional...

Opinion - The 7800xt is not a good value card at it's current price when compared to a 4070

Nvidia are brilliant at marketing their products as being feature rich and if you go ATi/AMD you will be missing out on essential features(PhysX, Tessellation, NVENC, Gsync, Hairworks, Ray Tracing, DLSS). The reality is their proprietary technologies are optional extras at a premium. The 7800XT...

Opinion - The 7800xt is not a good value card at it's current price when compared to a 4070

Taking in to consideration nothing but price and performance there isn't a single current gen card which presents value at their current price points. At the same price the 7800XT versus 4070 is a real pick 'em and it's not a bad situation to be in. Healthy competition should lead to lower...

7800XT is going to be a 5-year card!

Power draw primarily and curiosity regarding the additional features if I'm honest. Every time I've come to buy a GPU Nvidia are always priced at a premium I'm unwilling to pay. For the record, I'd never spend circa £500 on either card.

7800XT is going to be a 5-year card!

I'd probably go for the Nvidia card truth be told.

7800XT is going to be a 5-year card!

Going back to the original post. If we look at the 7800XT performance and VRAM size then yes this class of card/spec will be relevant for 5 years as it's already done three and it'll still be more than capable over the lifespan of the current generation of consoles. Ray Tracing performance...

Best time for a GPU ?

The right time to buy is when you can find a significant performance increase over your current card at a pricepoint within your budget.

    Any news on 7800 xt?

I never said it was a bad thing, I just tried to explain the VRAM situation as you're hung up on this "unused VRAM" malarkey. I think you've got about three different conversations going with three different posters, so I'll bow out. Like I said, enjoy your GPU and stop worrying about what...

    Any news on 7800 xt?

We were talking about your comments on your GPU being more efficient with VRAM. I've already confirmed that you have bought a very good GPU. It wouldn't be my choice as, going back over a decade now, ATI/AMD have always provided me a better option at a lower price point. This is of course...

    Any news on 7800 xt?

Your card isn't more efficient, it uses less and caches less because it has less to work with. This isn't an issue as it produces the same results, it only becomes an issue if you ever reach the hard limit in the card's lifespan. I bought an 8GB RX480 in 2016, to this day it is still usable...

    Any news on 7800 xt?

NVIDIA cards are not more efficient with VRAM, once 12GB becomes a hard limit your card will not perform as well as a card with a larger amount of VRAM. Of course it's highly unlikely you'll still have your card when 12GB becomes a problem because 8GB is only just becoming an issue in some...

    Any news on 7800 xt?

Clearly the games you have tested and the settings haven't limited a 12GB card then. Irregardless of whether they both appear to have the same overhead, a card with more VRAM should try to cache more data.

    Any news on 7800 xt?

Agreed, It's clearly going to occupy the space and price of the 6700 series when they finally sell through.

    Any news on 7800 xt?

After seeing reviews and prices I'm glad I jumped on the RX 6800 at £370.

    Any news on 7800 xt?

Alternatively you get a mature product and AMD cards usually have some decent performance gains a couple of years after release. With the consoles being based on RDNA2 we are unlikely to see support dropped for the foreseeable. I'm a simple man, I have no need for the latest and greatest. All I...

    Any news on 7800 xt?

5700XT that I bought in 2020 for £365 The 6800 is significantly faster than my outgoing card and has double the VRAM, that's enough for me.
