The last game you completed, and rating.

Finished Leon's story in Resident Evil 2 Remake, approximately 25 years after playing Claire's story on a mate's old PS1. (I feel old!!) I thought this was an absolute masterpiece of tense, menacing horror. I kept having to take breaks from playing every hour or so! They got so much right with...

What are the 30 year old plus gamers playing?

Fired up Resident Evil 2 Remake the other night. They really nailed a tense, oppressive atmosphere for RPD! Constant resource scarcity, limited carrying capacity, zombies coming through the damn windows and getting up when you thought they were dead! I've actually only played in 60-90 minutes...

Ha - awesome! Followed around by endless exclamations of "kawaiiii!" no doubt! :)

I did the same thing. For some reason, I bounced off Yakuza 0 the first time I installed it. I think it felt a bit "consoley" perhaps, in the game menu navigation and minigames and some gameplay elements clearly being clearly designed with a controller in mind. Once I got past that, though, and...

    Two weeks in Tokyo

Ah, if there's a train station, it shouldn't be too difficult. We went to Japan with an 18 month old with buggy 16 years ago. Our toddler was treated llke a little blonde-haired celebrity. :)

Yeah, think the day trip to Fiji is a bit out of reach ;) But seriously, I love the look of those lakes around Fuji. Kawaguchi is probably the one we'll try to get to, but that will depend on how easy it is to get to from Tokyo. Haven't checked the transport links yet. Pretty sure we'll try to...

The last game you completed, and rating.

Finally moved on, at least temporarily, from my Yakuza/LAD binge that stretches back to the end of last year: Yakuza 0 - really loved this one, a great intro to Kiryu and Majima. Got hooked on a few minigames too. 9/10 Yakuza K2 - quite liked the Dragon engine, but missed the variety of...

What are the 30 year old plus gamers playing?

Just now finished Like a Dragon: Ishin, and deciding if I want to mop up any side content before moving on. I found myself really immersed in the world somehow even though it's not terribly detailed compared to some more modern games. I don't think I've played any first- or third-person games...

    *** Offical Dragon's Dogma 2 Thread ***

Really looking forward to playing this, but need to be strategic about when I start it as I am concerned it could hoover up my life! :) I loved the first Dragon's Dogma, and ran through a few NG+ cycles and the Bitterblack Isle expansion. Even enjoyed the inane pawn chatter. It's got it's own...

The Yakuza games and their spin-offs thread

So, I finished Gaiden last night and really enjoyed it. It was nice to see Kiryu's story tied up a bit more and linking his role in 6 and 7, and seeing some events from 7 from another perspective. The final scenes hit me in the feels. Just fired up Ishin to make this six Yakuza games...

The Yakuza games and their spin-offs thread

I'm probably about a third of the way through 4 now, and I have to say that I think LAD (Y7) is my favourite so far. Y0 is a pretty close second for me. 2 and 6 I liked a lot, but 3 and 4 definitely feel lacking in a several respects in comparison IMO. The bizarro physics in Gaiden above will...

The Yakuza games and their spin-offs thread

That sounds less promising. Just started Y4 now, but will get to Ishin later on. Hopefully coming from the older games will make it seem better just by virtue of being more polished. The QoL features are conspicuosly missing in Y3 & 4...

The Yakuza games and their spin-offs thread

Haha, that looks ridiculous! I guess given the setting, Ishin doesn't fit in any order either, so it makes no difference playing it before 4 or 5?

The Yakuza games and their spin-offs thread

That's good to know. As these are all on GP now, I am currently planning to go 4 -> Gaiden -> Ishin, and then maybe 5 if I still have any appetite for the series by then. Will get Infinite Wealth either when it's dropped in price of when it also appears on GP, I think.

Cool. I used to know about 1800 kanji, but no idea how many I'm down to now with memory attrition. About five months left to see how well I can refamiliarise myself. But I seem to be finding that for every one I re-learn or manage to recognise again, I find another four or five I realise I...

    Two weeks in Tokyo

Great. I didn't know that. Last time we were there our eldest was just over one and we never managed to get moving early in the morning anyway, so never noticed! Incidentally, I notice you've been to Japan a lot - how is your Japanese? Last time we went, we found English not very widely spoken...

    Two weeks in Tokyo

That looks absolutely amazing! Definitely have to try that ramen! So, given our hotel is near Akihabara, I think maybe one day in Ueno and Asakusa and one in Akihabara would be good, and one of those days could leave the evening free for something else. Trying to do the cat temple before...

    Two weeks in Tokyo

@Raymond Lin Thanks again! A lot of that simplifies things and combines together some activities I'd had separated. I guess Ueno Park is good to combine with a visit to Asakusa and Akihabara? We are staying not far from there, so that should be quick for transport. I've dropped Tokyo Tower...

@Raymond Lin, those are really awesome, detailed and hugely helpful replies. Thanks so much for all that! I have copied and pasted into my notes. Our kids love cats too, so the cat temple has to go on the list as well :) Not aiming to climb Fuji, just get a good view. I love the pictures...

    Cheapish portable-ish mechanical keyboard

I have Das on my shortlist for my next fullsized home keyboard. Keychron look nice, but a bit pricier. The MageGee, though, is the same price and specs as the Royla Kludge RK61. It looks like blue switches are the only alternative to red, though, whereas the RK has brown. Not sure which I would...
