    Is 500W enough?

Hi all, "Is 500W enough for a PSU in a gaming PC?" To clarify the main components: Intel i7 6700k @ 4GHz (stock, watercooled) 16 GB (2x8) memory GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB) 2x Samsung SSDs (256GB and 1TB) BluRay drive/dvdrw (ASUS) 500W PSU Used for mainly moderate gaming (in 1080p, if that...

What PC games are you playing?

Currently playing Rainbow Six Siege. In fact, that's been my primary go-to game since it was released. Prior to that it was GTA5 - I'd just bum about in free roam annoying people lol

Problem with tp-link archer c58 router

Yeah the firmware is up to date, also just checked and the remote management features are all disabled. I'll give factory resetting it a go. On an interesting note, when this does happen only wired LAN connections work. Most likely wont happen again :)

Problem with tp-link archer c58 router

Occasionally my router drops all wireless connections and although the SSID can be seen, it cannot be connected to as it rejects the password even though it’s right. Navigating to the router web page reveals the usual log in screen, but this time all in Russian. It rejects the...

Fast startup (boot) Windows 10 and SSDs

Yeah I have seen it work wonders on traditional HDDs. I have only SSDs in my primary system, and tbh I don't notice a difference with fast boot on or off. This leads me to just "leave it alone" on my new laptop, which also has SSD.

Fast startup (boot) Windows 10 and SSDs

Hi all, I am of the belief that a) an SSD is quick enough so waiting 2-3 seconds longer to boot is OK, and b) the trade-off is you get a "clean" boot (similar to restarting) instead of recovering the kernel and other things (drivers??) from a hibernate file. Also, not writing lots of info to...

Laptop battery, usage and caring for it

Agreed. Part of me just thinks to leave the laptop plugged in at all times, as although being kept at 100% capacity doesn't do any favours, it doesn't seem to cause as much long term damage as ploughing through charge cycles every time.

Laptop battery, usage and caring for it

Hello all you laptop users! What is your usage profile with battery and/or AC? How often do you run it on battery vs AC? Do you unplug from the mains when shut down? Does leaving it plugged in damage the battery? I have been using laptops for ages, but have never wondered the "best" way to...

PC Nostalgia (Pick a moment in time)

Playing the likes of Quake 2, Action Quake 2, and later Quake 3, Unreal Tournament etc was epic times. I have real fond memories of that time. I did a huge stint of Ultima Online as well around that time. What I miss most about gaming in the late 90s and early 2000s is the community feeling...

    Domino's Delivery

If I'm paying cash, I'll tip. Mostly I order via the app/online and pay via card/PayPal, so no tip.

    Reaction time whilst gaming.

This 100%. Some games are just an effort/chore to play. I do find that my reactions (as well as my patience!) may not be as high as it once was, but that's because nowadays I am putting in about 5-6 hours a week, whereas in "the day" was about 5-6 hours per day.

    DisplayPort and refusing to boot

I did look, but couldn't see anything. I just got to remember to turn the monitor on before I power up the PC. I suspect maybe it is something to do with the graphics card? Both card and board are by MSI (card is a GTX1060)

    DisplayPort and refusing to boot

When I used to run 2 monitors the display would default to the HDMI and it'd continue as if it were a single monitor set up. Now I'm only running the one monitor (DP) if just.... does nothing other than turn off the screen.

    DisplayPort and refusing to boot

I've been living with it TBH. It's a very minor hassle, now that I know nothing serious is wrong :)

    DisplayPort and refusing to boot

Yeah that's what I think - everything is clearly working as it should so this must be some kind of "feature".

    DisplayPort and refusing to boot

Apologies if this is the wrong section... I have a GTX 1060 and connect to an ACER monitor via DisplayPort. Usually I just let the monitor go to stand by when I shut down and have never thought about it. Recently, I started turning my monitor off because I'm kind like that. Today, I noticed...

    How did it work?

Good shout. The game in question is Rainbow Six: Siege (PC). According to various sources/forums (fora? forii?) there are some unpublished ports over the 50,000 range that the game uses. Apparently this randomises? I'll give "packet captures". Any specific app you'd recommend?

    How did it work?

Yeah I have heard that as well and that used to be the first thing I'd do - disable UPnP on the router. On a related note, I sometimes find some games still offer me moderate NAT even though I've forwarded all the correct ports etc. This resolves itself and becomes open NAT when I enable UPnP so...
