    Is the motherboard to blame?.........

Sorry for the late response folks, and again, thanks for all your help and advice. I suspected that the OS was to blame as everything else seemed fine, so last weekend I installed Windows 7 on a spare hard drive I had in the PC, the GTX 980 has run without a hitch since then. Hopefully...

    Is the motherboard to blame?.........

Yes, low frame rate again sadly.:( I've been into windows system configuration to block a lot of the stuff that kicks in at start up (I use Windows 10) that's not done anything. I swapped the graphics card modular connection on the PSU just in case that was a problem, but that's not cured it...

    Advice please....

Thanks for all the advice guys, i'm out of touch with the latest GPU's. When I built my rig the 7970 was the way to go. My budget is around £200 - £250 (found some spare cash!)that's without selling my 7970. So I could go to £250 then sell my 7970 to recoup some money.

    Advice please....

Hi folks, I have a Gigabyte AMD Radeon HD 7970 graphics card. I'm looking for some extra performance on a limited budget. Do add another 7970 in crossfire configuration, or go for something like a MSI AMD Radeon R9 290 4GB TWIN FROZR IV Graphics Card? I'll almost certainly be buying second...

SPDIF problem on Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z Motherboard

    External DAC Recommendation

Exactly;). I'm going to buy an adaptor, people using laptops with no SPDIF link their DAC's using an adaptor that retails for under £30.

    External DAC Recommendation

Because it hasn't got USB? The earlier models had USB these don't. It seems some people are using cheap (but effective) SPDIF to USB converters and are happy with the results.

    External DAC Recommendation

Beresford Bushmaster MK2 gets great reviews. Approx £180 (inc VAT) but it's optical or phono only, can't get it to work with SPDIF on my ASUS mobo though.:( Maybe an adaptor is the solution?
