    £5k - 3rd car for dad duties

I have a few pics of the old girl, looks like I need to host them somewhere to upload here though. It’s a ‘87 normally aspirated 3ltr automatic, accordingly it’s pretty rare. It was put in storage in 2007 on 35k before being put back on the road and sold on in 2013. My dad bought it in 2016...

    £5k - 3rd car for dad duties

Effectively I will be, but being a run around doesn’t mean I’ll abuse the old girl. It will be run me to a station one a week and then occasionally picking up my boys from childcare. I can park it safely near the station and my kids have been brought up to respect cars. I’ll treat it as a...

    £5k - 3rd car for dad duties

Things have taken a rather unexpected path! My dad has a couple of classics, a early 70’s TVR which he restored from the ground up and an 85 mk3 Toyota Supra which has done about 40k and is extremely original. He has wanted a TVR V8s to join the stable for ages and finally found one meaning...

    Lotus Emira Discussion

Interesting how the hype is starting to cool. It will be interesting what happens when production cars start to be delivered and the proper reviews can happen with the right cars on the right tyres. I wonder if the slightly iffy first review planning with cars on the wrong tyres has really...

    £5k - 3rd car for dad duties

Things have developed! Having had a week away I decided to bite the bullet and tentatively advertise my Focus RS. At the same time I also mentioned my plans on a Lotus Facebook group and someone mentioned they might be selling their Exige Sport 380. I’ve accepted a straight sale to a dealer on...

When are you going fully electric?

A little bit, I’m in the 58.5% tax bracket because of the child benefit charge. A little bit of man maths never hurt anyone! A 4 yr lease, 8k per annum - lack of warranty not relevant in this context.

When are you going fully electric?

After a comparatively short 6 months but with some frustrating delays our iPace arrived this week. Only driven about 40 miles myself but first impressions are that it’s great. I managed to pick up an HSE Black through my employers salary sacrifice scheme for a net £450 p/m (inclusive of...

    £5k - 3rd car for dad duties

Why, anything wrong with them in particular? I’m not planning on replacing a Focus RS with a RAV4 for its driving dynamics

    £5k - 3rd car for dad duties

Still pondering what to do. This came up locally, no reg to do an MOT check but it looks in good condition and someone has bothered to put premium tyres on it. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202208178868550

    Mazda 6 chip tuning

What does that tell you about how popular or worthwhile it is?

    £5k - 3rd car for dad duties

A panda came up locally for the same sort of money, not a 100hp though unfortunately. On holiday next week, when I’m back I think I’m going to put my Focus RS up for sale and get the ball rolling. After almost 6 years I’m still torn about whether it’s the right thing to do.

    £5k - 3rd car for dad duties

Haha, my mate has one that he has beaten into scrap for the last 10 years.

    £5k - 3rd car for dad duties

If that was £2k then perfect, seems like a lot of money for a 16 year old car.

    £5k - 3rd car for dad duties

No, cheap and 4 doors that’s really my only ask. No desire for an old barge with the associated running costs. I don’t want anything too nice so my special car feels more special - I appreciate that might seem like an odd comment.

When are you going fully electric?

Gross or net? It makes a bit of a difference.

    £5k - 3rd car for dad duties

That’s where a brand new iPace with 3p a mile running costs will do the job! This car is literally for one purpose, creating a viable excuse for buying something stupid e.g the Exige I mentioned previously. I don’t particular want to be spending £500 a year on insurance but now I’m getting...

When are you going fully electric?

Blimey, I’ll hopefully enjoy my iPace for the next few years and then run around in something cheap next time around.

    £5k - 3rd car for dad duties

If the engine bay is anything to go by that is a well loved car. It’s that sort of thing part of me would quite like, mpg isn’t really an issue when you are doing so few miles. To be fair it’s not even that far from me - scrap that it’s not very far from me whilst I’m on a train coming back...

When are you going fully electric?

Crikey that’s punchy, seems like a lot of the lease companies are benefiting from the sustained move to salary sacrafice. My iPace HSE Black with option seats is £950 gross.

    £5k - 3rd car for dad duties

That’s the point though, all those factors make it cheap to buy for a car that will cover about 1000 miles a year.
