    CPU/Mobo Upgrade Advice/Worth it?

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, the 2600 seems like the way to go, though I think I'll take your advice and wait until just after Xmas and see what offers/bundles there are. If I'm lucky, maybe I can push the spec towards a 2600x without breaking the bank. It also sounds like there is some control...

    CPU/Mobo Upgrade Advice/Worth it?

Hi folks, (I can't believe this account is still active! I should speak to a mod about changing the username, though... it's literally from when I still played Dark Forces II!) I'm a little out-of-the-loop on the CPU front and I'm looking for some potential upgrade advice. I've been running...

    CPU/Mobo/RAM upgrade for <£250?

Hey guys, really sorry to bump up this thread, but I thought it'd be better than starting a new one. I've now got the money together to buy the better specs suggested by Doomedspeed and RJC. Has anything major changed in the last month, or should I still go with those configurations...

    CPU/Mobo/RAM upgrade for <£250?

Hey guys, sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the responses! I thought it was pretty amusing that the first spec recommendations you both posted were almost the same. :p £300 may be really pushing for it me, so I might have to go with RJC's second recommendation with the i5 3330...

    CPU/Mobo/RAM upgrade for <£250?

CPU/Mobo/RAM upgrade for £250 to £300? [UPDATE] Hey guys, So, in a bizarre RMA situation where the fan on my GTX 560 died, I've managed to get a nearly-free upgrade to a GTX 660 OC. I'm very happy with the upgrade, but it's becoming more and more apparent that my computer is getting...

BenQ G2420HDBL (LED Backlit) or BenQ G2420HD

I was in the same position (wanting a HDMI), and ordered the G2420HDB because of it, but it just turned up and mine does NOT have a HDMI port. This is very odd, considering the multiple confirmed reports I've heard in other threads about HDMI on this monitor.

    Small, quiet media centre PC

Thanks for the replies, guys; both specs are very much appreciated. :) I think I know where to go from here (my father was particularly impressed by that HTPC case!), but if anybody else wants to throw more suggestions out there, feel free.

    Small, quiet media centre PC

Hi there, I've been out of the builds market for a while now (last system I really built was about a year ago), and I was wondering if someone could give me some build advice. My father recently purchased a Sony Bravia TV and has asked me to set up a small media centre PC, preferably ATX...

... ;) Hehehe... I wonder if he ever figured that out? :D

    Hanns-G HW191D Thread (Now £107.95 @ OcUK)

Hmm, really? I've heard conflicting reports on this. I'm pretty sure a previous poster in this thread was upset with how the 360 looked... maybe he was just using the wrong settings? What resolution are you using?

For any Widescreen TFT owners, a quick check please

Mine has always shown nvidia aspect scaling up in DVI mode, but it just doesn't work. The screen displays an "out of range" or "no signal" message. However, I did notice the following on my setup: If you set your screen resolution to 1024x768 before trying aspect scaling and then activate it...

    Hanns-G HW191D Thread (Now £107.95 @ OcUK)

There's a option in the OSD menu which allows you to do this. I've never actually tried it with two devices hooked up at once, but I can only assume that's why the option even exists.

    Hanns-G HW191D Thread (Now £107.95 @ OcUK)

After setting up the monitor with a DVI cable about an hour ago and trying out the aspect ratio timing options in the driver, I can confirm this. Bummer. Is there no other way to attain the correct aspect ratios on this monitor? Not that I can tell. You can always hook up something like an...

    Hanns-G HW191D Thread (Now £107.95 @ OcUK)

I just received this monitor yesterday morning, and I am extremely impressed with it! It is an upgrade from a dodgy Hyundai 17", so I guess that's understandable. :p I'm running a GeForce 7800GS, and while most games that don't support widescreen are perfectly playable stretched above...

When your games are only running at 20 FPS or so, that extra 8 FPS can make all the difference. :p

    AGP card for £100-150ish?

I was just about to recommend the 6800GS there. ;) I believe it's faster than the X800 GTO in some applications, but it depends on the model. If you're willing to go second hand, I'm sure you could get even better.

    Best graphics card for ~£100?

What are the rest of your specs? Anyway, to answer your question, it depends on whether you're willing to go second hand or not. You can expect to get a card between a GeForce 6600 GT to a 6800 GS at that price point, I'd guess. Perhaps better if you go second hand. Any card at this level of...

    Xbox on a TFT?

There's a product called the XGA Box that handles this for resolutions up to 1024x768, and then there's the Neoya X2VGA 2 which handles HD resolutions after you plug component cables into it. I've heard that it's also possible to build a VGA cable yourself out of a RGB scart, if you're into...

Shall I or Shall I Not? Help needed!

Well, it looks like DX10 won't hit fully until some time next year, so if you're looking to play games before then, you may as well upgrade now. With a PCI-express board, you'll be able to upgrade in future, should you need it.
