Diagnosing faulty PSU - Corsair TX-650

My PC is plugged into one ! I have noticed a very faint burning smell in the office in recent weeks - I guess that was probably a sign as I'm pretty sure the same thing happened last time, when I think about it.

Diagnosing faulty PSU - Corsair TX-650

Well the replacement Corsair TX650W PSU has just packed up on me tonight ! The first lasted 8 months and this one lasted 16 months - do these Corsair PSUs have reliability issues or have I just been unlucky ? Looks like I'll have to RMA this one too :(

Diagnosing faulty PSU - Corsair TX-650

To conclude this thread, I took the PSU back to OC on Saturday and they tested it for me there and then, which was good of them as the email reply I'd received said that they don't usually do testing on a Saturday. It didn't take them long to agree with my diagnosis and gave me a replacement...

Diagnosing faulty PSU - Corsair TX-650

Many thanks for your replies guys - very useful info. Before I got chance to try any jump-starting, I was lucky enough to be leant a friend's spare PSU tonight and noticed the (internal) LEDs on the P6T light up immediately when this new PSU was connected and switched on (before the main case...

Diagnosing faulty PSU - Corsair TX-650

Hi folks, I built an i7 PC in April this year (spec in my sig below), with all the parts bought from OC. It's been working fine up until tonight - I went to turn it on and...nothing. No lights, no beeps - nothing. Case power lead is OK (power is getting to PSU), there are no obvious loose...

Launched programs minimise to taskbar on Vista

theheyes - I'll check and see exactly which programs it affects when I go back in on Monday. One example is when you click on a link in an email, it'll open IE to the taskbar, so that an additional click on the corresponding taskbar button is required to maximise IE in order to view the...

Launched programs minimise to taskbar on Vista

We've just been upgraded to Vista at work (don't laugh - it's a big company so it's taken years for this to happen !) One thing I don't like about Vista is that whenever you launch a program, it always opens to the taskbar (in a minimised fashion) - is there any way to stop this happening ...

Canon printer and W7 - no go...

W7 had inbuilt drivers for my 5 year-old Canon i865 printer - I'm surprised the same isn't true for a newer model. However - I'm very disappointed to see that the same isn't true for my Canon LiDE80 scanner. Canon do supply a W7 driver for it, but it doesn't work when installed. A quick check...

    New webcam recommendations ?

Hi folks, Creative have decided that, at around 5 years old, my old NX Pro webcam is obsolete, so they've officially stopped supporting it and haven't released Vista or W7 drivers for it. I find this incredibly annoying because it's still a very good webcam and performs just as well, if not...

ASUS P6T - best BIOS settings to lower CPU fan sensitivity ?

I tried changing the Q-Fan setting to Silent' in the BIOS and it's made no difference to my 'mouse wheel revving the CPU fan' issue. If anything, the PC now sounds slightly louder in general use than when it was on standard, which is odd. Does anyone else with a P6T have the similar issues ?

ASUS P6T - best BIOS settings to lower CPU fan sensitivity ?

Thanks for the reply - I'll try the settings in the BIOS as you suggest. In terms of other fans, I've got the Antec 300 case fans set on low so they're effectively silent and definitely aren't the cause of the problem, as I've not yet got them connected to the P6T fan ports. I've only...

ASUS P6T - best BIOS settings to lower CPU fan sensitivity ?

I've recently built an i7 system (see sig below), based around an ASUS P6T motherboard. Currently, when I use the scroll wheel on my mouse, I can hear the CPU fan (stock Intel i7 920 fan/cooler) increase in speed momentarily. It has the effect of 'revving' the fan, rather like you might do to...
