Starlink fibs - Speed tests versus actual

Long time since I've posted on ocuk! Am I missing something here? Testing a Starlink here in South Wales. Standard actuated residential. Elevated, no obstructions. Ethernet adapter to my little baby network. (app stats does report 'problem between the satellite & the internet occurred' ever...

Dock for MBP 14 2021 model - Multi Monitor Setup

LG 5k + Studio display issue via the dock is because the LG does not support DSC, whereas the Studio Display does. The LG needs more than half of the 40gbps of the TB3 bandwidth, but with DSC enabled it's under 20gbps. So with only one 40gbps connection to the dock..... It's two Apple 5k's only.

LG Ultrafine 5k - under monitor soundbar?

Hey peoples! Picked up an LG 5K Ultrafine as replacing my old iMac. Screen fantastic on the LG, but the built in speakers are sadly rather lacking. Nowhere near what i've been used to with the iMacs built in speakers. Not keen on bookshelf style speakers as they are just going to be in my way...

    Batch resaving - advanced input

Looking for an advanced batch image processing tool with two very specific requirements. 1 - Can work recursively through a very large & very nested folder structure. 2 - Input options, is able to ignore files under a certain file size. Struggling with the second one for sure :-/. The end...

Advice on change from 2013 Mbp + iMac to M1 Mbp

Aye yus, been reading the reviews of the older Qnap, which seems limited by the chip they used to around 600mb/sec no matter what. (bit silly of them really....) Says the nvme's can be used as cache or storage pool. So one would hope that they realised the error of their ways with the new tb4...

Advice on change from 2013 Mbp + iMac to M1 Mbp

Hey all, Looking a bit of advice & recommendation about my setup shift. Quite a bit actually :) So have now an M1max mbp 16" 64gb with 1tb ssd. This is going to be the single machine basis of the new setup. Coming from a 2013 iMac and a mbp, which I do really love, but it's time for them to...

Sounds like you might wish to enter the world of the 'systainer' for storing your tools.

Power Tools & General Tools Recommendations & Advice

I'd just pick up a used 110v transformer from fb market or gumtree and use 110v site lights.... Simple, cheap, quick.

Power Tools & General Tools Recommendations & Advice

Jeepers you are on the angles with that beast lol... Get the first course & second course down perfect and make some cutting templates for the angles as you go. Then you can bang the rest of the cutting out en mass. 2 days hire a cutter job done :-)

Power Tools & General Tools Recommendations & Advice

Double check the cut capicity there champ - don't think the Rage will be able to cut through 100mm block at an angle less than about 75 degrees. You be needing a 12" blade minimum. Also do not underestimate the dust. It will be obscene. IMO buy a used petrol disc cutter, with water feed, and...

    Fresh garage build, 5x10m, £10k

Ack I didn't look closely enough at your photos before I replied. I has assumed the bearers were inset somewhat under the outside face of the timber construction. See what you are saying, as any wall water runoff will still find a way in on top the bearer. So my second suggestion is that it...

Exposure to weed killing products increases risk of cancer by 41%

hmmmm interesting. I just bought 5litres of commercial concentrated grade glyphosate. Has 490grams per liter. Looking at the various domestic stuff in the diy stores they have upto 10grams of glyposate per liter. Definitely will be wearing rubber gauntlets!!!

Relocating to the south west, Bristol or Cardiff?

I've moved over the bridge so to speak. Bristol to halfway between Cardiff & Newport. Still working in Bristol though. Cardiff is definitely more happening these days that Bristol: Bigger music scene, more stuff on. Really impressed. Welsh people are generally more lively! I might be a bit...

    Picked up a LG OLED55B6V

Anyone got a 65b7v? Had mine a week now, and its damn impressive with 4k hdr. Only prob is I think its going to have to go back for a replacement - LHS edge of the screen seems to have a feathering in tint/glow. Most worst at the physical edge and fades in over about four inches. Shows up...

    How smart is your home?

it would seem that LightwaveRF can only control a combi? I cannot see any further info on their website that suggests a dual channel traditional hot water/central heating version? Am I missing something? I get the jist I can use a LWRF relay to control the immersion.

    Tower block fire - london

Corporate manslaughter... The cladding is Alcoa's version of Di-Bond. Two versions of the cladding, 'PE' & 'FR' FR standing for fire resistant, and yet the company behind the contract managed to persuade the fire inspection company that the non fire resistant version would behave in the same...

    Insulating garage breeze block wall

If you are going with the celotex option or around 50mm in a timber frame, you would be better going for 25 thick boards between batons of 25mm to match. Then a second layer of 25mm foil faced offset over the top, bonded with some foam glue. This will eliminate cold bridging. Then you tape the...

    stamp duty confusion

Trying to get my head around stamp duty. Here is the situation: Partner and I (not married) are buying a home together. £280k. I do not own any other property. I rent on my own. My partner currently lives in her childhood family home. Since early 2013. That home & deed was inherited by her &...
