Project Leekspin - FINALLY FINISHED AFTER 5 YEARS!

Cheers all! Does feel mega to finally finish it, and for once a project looks how it did in my head. :D I designed it in Deltacad, marked it all out on a sheet of 1.2mm mild steel, chopped it out with an angle grinder, then drilled all the holes and cut the fan holes with a massive holesaw in...

Project Leekspin - FINALLY FINISHED AFTER 5 YEARS!

Took me 5 years, but this year I finally got round to finishing this build! I did have the CPU watercooled for a few years but was never happy with the result so never shared it. Earlier this year, I had a major leak where a pipe popped out of the CPU block and pumped a load of coolant out over...

Plusnet devices disconnecting, will a new router fix this?

I've got one of the newest ones, it works most of the time, but sometimes drops HTTP for a few mins and can't load any websites, but streaming netflix etc works fine. Occasionally certain devices cannot get a connection, resetting the router seems to fix this. So yeh, it's pretty pants...

    G3258 Expectations

I set mine to 4.2ghz, 1.2v on the stock cooler. Got pretty hot at around 75-80C. Given you can get much better coolers for £20, I'd just recommend getting a decent cooler...

[Build Log] MODZERO FORTY - HEX GEAR R40

I've got a bunch of them, just running them off a Phobya 8 way splitter, powered with 1 molex so just did the 7v mod and honestly can barely hear them.

[Build Log] MODZERO FORTY - HEX GEAR R40

Really looking forward to this being done, looks awesome. :) Good fan choice. The hex pattern will match perfectly!

2015 Tt Invitational Season 2 mod for the UK!

Ram does look awesome but those fans and CPU block are hideous! Not sure why but they just don't do it for me. Will be interesting to see what you get done with the kit though. :P

Diggy Hole - Watercooled, overclocked, ITX, 4.2ghz Minecraft server!

Ta, I'm very happy with it. It's nice to have started and finished a build in a month and not feel like there is stuff I want to change immediately! I've only had problems with dust in builds when the room isn't kept clean. Just not having the dust in the air is the best way to keep systems...

Diggy Hole - Watercooled, overclocked, ITX, 4.2ghz Minecraft server!

I recently found I was having a problem with my current home server, in that the Minecraft Server application was struggling massively because I build a lot of large redstone machines. Minecraft Server runs the the main world engine thingy in a single thread, which means that it needed a big...

    H80i sucks, new cooler?

Doesn't matter about water temp, that makes little to no difference to CPU temp. They're not that awesome performing as it's a 120mm AIO, and you've got a 4790k. Just a bad match up IMO, I'd have at least a 240mm AIO or custom loop on it.

    5960X or 5930K for new build ?

Another vote for 5820k and putting the money saved into GPUs. The one noticeable difference between the 5830k and 5820k is that the 5930k can do 4 way SLI, which is a pointless exercise anyway.

    Windows 10

I keep hearing different stories/rumours about the free licence, can anyone clera up a couple of things? Is it true that the licence is only valid if you leave it as a testing licence, so that you are always running a pre-release OS? And that if you cancel the testing status of your licence...

    Windows 10

I have no faith in Win10 being a quality product. Sacking all the testers and hoping the community will test it for you and provide the same information about the product seems totally insane to me.

    Project: Old Dogs

One tip I'd give would be to zip tie all of those lower cables together, so they form one cleaner line rather than the current mess of them. I see you've got some velcro straps on there, but it'd look much tidier with loads of skinny zip ties holding them all tight. :)

    [Build Log] Back To Water!

This build is awesome. Big fan of the tubing, such a breath of fresh air over the "link this thing to that thing". Absolutely loving it. :)

    5820k system question

Yeh I would, then I'd consider stuff like more/larger SSDs. A new case is a really good way of making a build feel fresh and new as well. :)

    5820k system question

For gaming, no. Willing to bet you'll not see any difference at all. Maybe a few % increase in FPS but nothing noticeable. I'd put the money into upgrading everything else first (do you have a DX12 ready graphics card?) and do motherboard/CPU/RAM some time in the future.

    5820k

Good info, also worth adding that PCIE3x8 is the same speed as PCIE2x16, so modern cards are not affected by running at x8. LinusTechTips did a really good video which showed that a 5830k in tri-SLI running the cards at PCIE3 x16 performed identically to a 5820k running them at PCIE3 x8...
